Should work. Are you sure you don't have a bad solder joint on your volume pot after the switch? Or that your wiring is correct? Nothing grounding out against the enclosure? 9V wire soldered to the wrong lug on your DC jack? Lots of room for things to go wrong in boxing.

You can hear various bits of your body, though.  As well as every bit of tinnitus that you didn't realize you had when masked by normal environmental noise.

I don't know if this is actually true, but I've been told that some of that sound is actually generated by your nervous system as well.

Love the pulsing eye!

Forgot to post in here for the past couple of days, but it turns out that after I rebalanced Gain 2 to Scruffie's original suggestion (IC1/IC5), that was enough to make it right -- I went back and checked the levels at pin 7 and pin 14 of the 570, and they were exactly identical. So I hereby declare my 3005 build finished and sounding great!

Just a note, you don't have to use an optical bypass board (or a 3PDT daughterboard) if you don't want to. It's a personal preference based on how the builder likes to do things. I just use regular 3PDTs most of the time, myself.

I love all of these, but I really love that angler fish.

I haven't posted a build report for mine because it hasn't been labeled and knobbed yet!

Now that's some fine engineering.

Also, can we talk about how your Flickr username is Dickolas Wang for a minute. Do you have a secret career in film you'd like to tell us about?  ;D

I didn't have a chance to look at it over the weekend (maybe tomorrow?), but as stated elsewhere in the thread, the build doc instructions are wrong about how to set Gain 2. As per Scruffie's last post,

...gain trim 2 should be adjusted so that pin 7 & 14/15 of the NE570 are equal level and then if that can't be achieved go back and tweak gain 1.

Yup, noise at full delay time is perfectly normal.

I sent Brian a PM about the build doc, hopefully it'll be updated soon.

You should go back and revisit your biasing/gain trims and then see if you're still getting noise on all the repeats, or just at max delay time. I know my repeats cleaned up a lot once I had things more or less as they should be. I originally had Gain 2 maxed out, and it made things really noisy. I'm using Xvive 3005s as well, no complaints otherwise.

I've got one built with Xvive 3005s that sounds totally great, and one with four MN3008s that needs some work (getting some clock noise at max delay time, but I also probably need to re-do the biasing).

Not sure if you wanted it or not but I just noticed the "Simple Machines Forum" banner at the top of the page. Never noticed it before.

Just to chime in, I got my 570s from Small Bear as well and haven't had any trouble. You may have gotten unlucky but in general I trust them.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll go back and reassess that over the weekend, I'll probably be working all day tomorrow.

I'm late to the party, but all my enclosures have always come from Pedal Parts Plus.
