General Questions / Hotcake project?

Are there any Hotcake projects or pcb's? Sorry, I'm not really into vero or etching at the moment.

Since this is a unique circuit that doesn't get as much love as some of the others, I'd also be interested in any circuit analysis/study if anyone feels like sharing.

Smallbear is out of the through hole. It's the separate shipping cost that kills.

Well, shoot... Mouser is out of the smd MMBFJ201 and won't have any till Feb. I may have to suck it up and get a couple of the through-hole Interfet 106-J201 @ $3.50 a pop.

They are expensive... Anybody ever have any issues with those?

Is it safe to assume that the MCU included with the v2 boards will also work in the v1 switching boards? I was thinking of having a few of the v1's made at some point.

What j201 sub works well in this circuit?

Thinking about using the adapter board but... I'm curious if there are any tried&true alternatives for this particular circuit or just boosts in general?

Ok, I think I see... so it sounds like the same thing as the compensation cap for the lm308 in the Rat.

Any idea why that cap wouldn't be included in the Tractor Beam? Is it because he used an good opamp for the mixer stage?

General Questions / Phase 90 dominant pole compensation

While doing some phaser research, I was reading thru the Electrosmash Phase 90 Analysis article ( https://www.electrosmash.com/mxr-phase90 ) and noticed the following statement in the "Output Mixer Stage" section:

"Later circuit revisions (Block Logo), included a capacitor C11 from base to collector. It is a Miller Capacitor which shapes the high-frequency response (roll-off the highs) providing a dominant pole compensation preventing oscillation."


Is that the same thing as the stray filter cap across the zener in the Tractor Beam project? Is it for noise, to roll off the highs, or a little of both?

I have 90's block logo and it has a nice sounding high frequency roll off that I don't really hear in other phasers. Is that the trick?

That being said, I don't think "even if you don't know what you're doing, just go out and vote for for somebody!" is a constructive approach to this debate. Not saying anyone here is advancing that idea, but I've definitely seen it multiple times on social media today.

The USA was founded on the concept that Everyone gets a say in the future path of their existence just by existing.... which was not the way things were before.

From the Declaration of Independence:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — "

A quick thought experiment...

Let's say that a party in power of a government decides that saying something "idiotic" will revoke your right to vote... especially in a public manner. They have determined that Frag has said something of this kind and his right to vote has been revoked... He can never vote again for any reason. Is that fair? How does that make you feel?

Point being...That is what led to the founding of this country, so let's not forget how things used to be even though we have never directly experienced it ourselves.

Btw, I like a lot of Heinlien's ideas and concepts but the whole idea that "you have to serve to vote" is flawed in my opinion. I know Switzerland has a system like that but I'm not familiar enough with it to comment or compare.

Any chance I could get in on one of those original boards? I bought a bunch of parts up front (jacks, relay, power) when I did my first vfe order since I was planning on building them all. I was gonna oshpark some of the original switch boards once I run out. I am also planning on getting the FRH and Springboard so I could do all those at once to save on shipping.

I'm working with some people/techs in guitar shops and they are going to test this thing on a Tokai and a Gibson tomorrow. I'm more than happy to provide you with an SG one when I get the measurements done. I'm currently looking into the routings of Gibson cavities, to see if 'one size fits all' is possible or that things have changed too much from series to series over the decades. Keep an eye out on the B/S/T :)

Cool... I can certainly provide you any dimensions you want for my SG. It's the only Gibson electric I have at the moment. I've got a buddy that will surely let me measure his 2007 LP Classic if you are interested in that.

Doesn't EMG use a similar molex type connector/header underneath the pickup and the other end of the wire is soldered? You have to remove the pickups to disconnect it... and could you even pull those connectors through the tiny boar hole if you wanted to remove the wiring harness?

I don't work on guitars much, but it seems like something like terminal blocks on the pcb would work better as a no-solder
type solution for regular pickups without a connector

I know... I did it about 8 years ago and was fighting what ended up being an internal short on one of the coils of a brand new Gibson 4-wire pickup. It was a real bummer... Once they replaced it, I didn't even try to pretty it up.

Here is the wiring diagram I used. I'm hoping to redo it at some point with some extra features/mods and that is why I was looking into the PCB stuff
