So I was given the opportunity to transform a stock Sovtek 6 screw Big Muff into a true monster.

It was requested to beef up and replace all the capacitors in the muff, true bypass it, add a tone bypass, mids switch, and oscillation. I made the oscillation tunable, added a pregain knob to clean up some of the hair, made the mids a 3 way switch between stock, boosted, and flat. Replaced all the wires, and added LEDs for each stomp switch (left is tone bypass, right is oscillation, center is engage. Oh, and I replaced the caps to Green Muff specs. So it really turned into a beast.

Replacing the caps was definitely hardest, or, should I say pulling the old ones was the hardest. I pulled up two traces on the PCB, but managed to secure them in place with extra solder and flux to the point where they are extra stable.

The mids switch was actually a lot more responsive than I would have thought it would be. I actually really enjoy it with boosted mids, it doesn't loose too much of the Muff sound either!

Here are some pictures, I'll get some better ones tonight once I get home:

Mods / Bypassable Blend Control?
July 31, 2012, 12:46:18 PM
So I'm trying to wrap my head around an idea that I got to try making a bypassable blend circuit so that you can go from 100% wet signal to a blended signal (dependant on the potentiometers mix)

Essentially I want the guitar signal (when the circuit is engaged) to travel to another 3DPT where the blend control has the option of being bypassed or engaged with an LED to indicate it, and then back to the return of the circuit bypass switch.

It HAS to be possible, I'm just having a little bit of a hard time articulating the send/returns of each circuit along with the wiring for the blend control.

The circuit I am using for the blend is this:

Here is an initial sketch to get some of my thoughts out. I know there are mistakes in it, but I figured I would give an illustrated example for people to go off of.

Furthermore, here is another diagram I made without wire connections if any of you happen to figure it out and want to illustrate it.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Mods / Runt: Ruetz Mod?
July 31, 2012, 01:22:23 AM
So I bought a Runt thinking I was going to make a simple RAT. Well then I started thinking of more and more mods, and now I want to add the Ruetz. I know that it involves one of the 47 ohm resistors, and I'm almost positive its R4, but I just wanted to check before I soldered everything in

Thanks guys!

Build Reports / A few of my builds, hello!
July 30, 2012, 03:13:13 PM
New guy here, been building pedals for pretty close to two years now. Been using Madbean boards in a lot of my projects  8)

I guess I'll start more recently and work my way back.

First up is the Madbean Afterlife, with the attack mod that I found here on the forum before joining:

Here is a circuit that is loosely based off of the Bazz Fuss, but with greatly different values, different transistor, and a huge output cap to boost any amp:

Next is a project that combines a ZVex Super Hard On into a double Bazz Fuss inspired circuit. The Bazz Fuass side has pregain, circuit gain, master volume, footswitchable oscillation, a 3dpt toggle to take the first bazz fuss out of the circuit, power starve.

And the prototype, this one has the Bazz Fuss into the SHO which was later flipped in the black version of the pedal.

This next one was made very specifically for my pedalboard, it is a 2 loop true bypass looper, followed by a Klon Buffer, into a SHO booster:

This next one was a bit of a joke, but I wanted to make a Big Muff with a Madbean board using nothing but Orange Drop caps. Civil War spec'd:

This one is an optical theremin I put together with power starve and togglable sub octave. I accidentally stepped on it:(

This next one was a multiples unit I put together for when I had my Moogs. Just a series of jacks with switchable on/off inputs.

This next one is a point to point version of the Bazz Fuss from up above.

PTP tagboarded SHO:

I call this one the VERMIN PULSE. I made it for my wife. It's a Madbean RAT with mods into the Madbean Double Flush Tremolo, with a 4DPT to switch between the order of the effects. Seriously awesome sounding pedal. Really should have planned the wiring better.

Rams Head spec'd Muff with power starve, mids, and oscillation. I loved this one a lot before I traded it.

Zvex Whooly Mammoth:

Music From Outer Space WSG with SHO, power starve, master volume.

THANKS FOR LOOKING!

Up next is a Cavedweller Deluxe with a 3dpt to switch between two different times, momentary oscilaltion, and a mix control.

After that is a Black Russian Big Muff revamp, followed by a Maestro FZ-1 into Shin Ei FY2, and lastly a Madbean Runt with clean blend and pregain.
