I have played around with the input and filtering caps and would now like to shift up the frequency of the clipping portion of the circuit when in high gain mode.  Any suggestions for a starting point?

Like mjcyates, I too was underwhelmed with the LEDs in the clipping section.  I wanted more clipping and compression like the BSIAB2 or red channel of the Aristocrat.  I replaced D1 and D2 with BAT41's and D3 with a MA856 (1N914 works well and is not much different, if any).  These changes gave a much spongier feel and sound is somewhat reminiscent of the MI Audio Crunchbox (which has clipping LEDs).

How much difference would different sizes and types of red LEDs make?  :-\

This pedal is thick!!!.....possibly a bit too thick for my tastes when using humbuckers (even with the tone knob maxed).  Which cap(s) should I experiment with to shift the frequency curve toward the upper mids?

I love the switching ability from low to high gain.  Most brown sound pedals seem to excel in low or high gain but this one seems very well balanced.  After changing the clipping structure and once I get a handle on the tone shaping, I may push the high gain pot up to 500k to see if it can be tolerated without oscillation.

Sorry, no pics yet...  I never box it up or wire in a 3PDT until I am sure I like the circuit.

...in regard to the clipping LEDs pictured on the Boneyard PCB, is the bottom or the top of the pictured LED meant to be the longer leg?

Requests / Screwdriver???

I'm surprised this has not come up.  I would like something a little different from a fuzz and OD and this might fit the bill...especially if it does Zeppelin tones as good as they say.

General Questions / Aristocrat builders....
February 23, 2011, 05:37:19 PM
I built this one on vero board (without the treble trimmer) a few months ago and it is by far my favorite OD.  My vero build seems to pick up radio frequencies and I was just curious if anyone gets this too using Bean's layout?  I want to move my build over to a new board to take advantage of the trimmer, especially if this layout seems to be less prone to RF interference.

Requests / Plexi variant?

Any chance you have considered one of the brown sound Plexi variants as an offering?  There are quite a few to choose from but, the Carl Martin has resurfaced lately based on a demo by Peter Thorn.

I'm getting ready to place an order and had questions about the Uproar.  This effect comes with quite a bit of hype but, I can't comprehend what sets it apart from other high gainers like my favorite, the Barber Dirty Bomb.  Aside from liking Alter Bridge and a few other heavy contemporary groups, I strictly want high gain for 80's metal.  What sets this pedal apart from the others?

I built a single-side version of the KOT on vero board (without the treble trimmer). However, I have considered building both sides since I would primarily use one side for a boost before the red/yellow channel.

I am currently building the Sunking as well.  It seems like most people run this after their dirt whereas I am used to a boost prior to OD/distortion.

Anyone compare running the Aristocrat boost prior to the yellow/red channel vs using the Sunking as a clean boost placing it after the Aristocrat?  Any preferences?

I only had a MAX1044 on hand.  I did notice the effect was more noisy in the effects loop vs in front of the amp.  Is the TC1044 noticeably quieter?

Tech Help - Projects Page / Fat Pants...even more bass?
November 25, 2010, 12:44:33 AM
.........Love the presence this thing adds!  While I have subbed in a few caps for C3 the increase in bass is subtle.  Is there a ceiling of diminishing returns for increasing C3?  Is there anything else I can do to add more bass while not compromising the other frequencies too much?  i would like to place this in my loop instead of using an EQ pedal (which I mainly use to juice the low end when playing at lower volumes.)

Thanks!
