Hey folks, I haven't been building pedals for a few years now and it's time to let go of the massive amount of stuff I've collected over the years. I'm not going to individually list out values and what not but rest assured there is enough here to keep you building for quite some time.

Notable items include some nearly finished and unstarted and licensed VFE/MadBean boards/pedals. And all of the chips and things that go with them. Thousands of high quality ICs (multiples of everything), transistors, resistors and capacitors, diodes. Pedal knobs, pots, enclosures, etc. The majority of the resistors and capacitors all came from either DigiKey or Mouser with a smattering of Tayda and Love My Switches.

The RIGOL  DS-1052E oscilloscope has been upgraded to 100Mhz but honestly I never had much time to use it. To my knowledge it works fine. I've fired it up but I am by no means an expert. I bought it for troubleshooting but never got around to finishing the pedal.

$1000 shipped for everything or $750 without the scope. Best Offer. It's a buy everything or nothing situation. I don't want this all sitting in my house any more :)

VFE Projects / MiniMu Guts Check
April 27, 2022, 02:48:03 AM
Hello frens!

Put my MiniMu together tonight and she fired up on the first click. Success! Can someone check that I have these optocouplers installed correctly? I think I do. I have the dots lines up like in the build docs. I'm having a heck of a time triggering any kind of filter sound. I can tell the envelope is trying to open but I just can't get anything usable. Any thoughts on tuning?

Arrows are pointing to dots.

VFE Projects / How close do the values have to be?
April 07, 2022, 05:02:56 PM
The tractor beam is looking for 22pf mlcc but I only have 15pf and 27pf. Do you think it's okay to use one of those and if so, which would you use? Or should I bite the bullet and just buy the 22s?

General Questions / EHX Small Clone Question
March 31, 2022, 05:58:22 PM
I'm looking to install a Boss style PSA jack to replace the original positive tip 2.1mm jack. Do I just flip the wiring on the jacks? I.e., tip (+) wiring (on board w/ resistor) now goes to the barrel wiring of the Boss PSA and the sleeve (-) of the 2.1mm now goes to the tip of the Boss PSA?

Are there any changes to the wiring that goes to the lugs of the input/output jacks?

VFE Projects / VFE Bumblebee - no swell
February 12, 2022, 12:13:44 PM
Hello! My first VFE build almost done!

I just finished my pedal last night and test drove it. Turned on first stomp and it is the quietest and smoothest compressor I've ever used. It sounds amazing. However! There is no swell effect. I can't seem to get it to trigger and I've tried the tuning method suggested in the build doc.

I found this thread with a similar issue but I cannot determine that the OPs issue was ever resolved. https://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=31323.15

I also noticed he's using an OP2134 instead of the OP134 in the build docs. Is that intentional? Or is the build doc a typo? I installed a OP134 in mine.

I also didn't have the .68uf cap so I used a 1uf cap.

Any thoughts or suggestions on what to try next would be appreciated, especially if you sorted it.

VFE Projects / Bumble Bee V3 - Wiring Check
January 31, 2022, 08:29:34 PM
Hey folks,

I was wondering if I could bother you to take a quick look at the wiring of these pots and the wiring from the power board to the main board. Does it look accurate?

The build docs are out of date for the power board to the main board. So I went with the silk screens to match connections from board to board.

For the pots, I looked at the schematic to identify what I thought were the ground pads to wire to lug #1 of each pot.

Really appreciate your time :)

VFE Projects / VFE plastic shaft question

Hello!

Do you have to use the 9mm plastic/shaft pots or could I use a regular pot, pin mount or otherwise?

VFE Projects / VFE Resistor question
January 13, 2022, 04:24:36 PM
Hey folks, still waiting on those PCBs to go on sale but I have a Q in anticipation. I know one of the call outs in the build docs is that space is sketchy and they call for 1/8 watt resistors. Is it still possible to use 1/4 watt resistors if you "stand" them on one end?

VFE Projects / Choral Reef - MN3005?
January 10, 2022, 02:14:00 AM
The build doc says this chip cannot be used. Is that still accurate? The mn3008 is impossible to find these days. Although, I have one in a 90s Small Clone chorus I could borrow, but I want to sell that one.

I've used the xvive mn3005s in a few frost bulls and they work great. Fingers crossed!

VFE Projects / TC7662BCPA Alternatives

I'm sourcing parts to build the VFE Bumble Bee and Choral Chorus. These ICs are sold out everywhere. Are there suitable alternatives you recommend?

VFE Projects / PCB Availability
January 09, 2022, 02:43:11 AM
I apologize if this has been answered before. I am kind of new to building pedals overall if you couldn't tell from my whacky posts :) I just stumbled on the VFE pedals and these sound absolutely amazing.

The two that stand out to me at the Bumbleee and the Coral Chorus. Is it still possible to buy these PCBs? How does one get the "software" for the VFE? I'm guessing the "VFE" is a chip that has software flashed on it?

The mouser BOM for the VFE boards shows most of the parts out on DEEP back order. Is that just because Mouser sucks? I've found DigiKey generally has everything in stock 100% of the time, but some of this stuff looks pretty niche.

Thanks!

Hello team MBP,

I'm in the middle of testing out my voltages on the ICs before I rock my box. I stated off with the 4558 ICs since there were so many of them. I'm not even sure I am taking these readings correctly. What I've been doing is putting my red probe on pin 4 and using my black probe to read across each pin. I.e., Pin 1 connected to Pin 4 gives me Xvdc.

My voltages seem to be all over the place on some of these ICs. IC1, IC4, IC5 all appear to be okay. IC3, IC9 are wozzed up.

IC3 P1: -9.3vdc
IC3 P2: -12.6vdc
IC3 P3: -12.8vdc
IC3 P4: -14.8vdc
5,6,7 all fine. pin 8 reads 0vdc to ground.

IC9 P1: Varies
IC9 P2: 7-8.6vdc
IC9 P3: varies
IC9 P4: -15vdc
IC9 P5: varies (7-9)
IC9 P6: varies (8-9)
IC9 P7: 8-9vdc

I could totally be doing these readings incorrectly. But any help would be appreciated. I did try to google the heck out of how to measure and test 4558s but all of the videos are in Hindi ...

General Questions / Total recall power wiring help
December 19, 2021, 04:34:34 AM
Okay I know I'm probably missing something obvious. I've looked at every single photo I could find and read the instructions and searched on here and read everything I can find.

I just can't figure out what's wrong. I wired my jack like the photo but I was only get 13V on the regulator. Using an EHX 24v + center.

So I figured that wasn't right and switched the negative lead to the other nib on the DC jack and fried the 240R resistor. So I switched it back (as pictured). What am I missing?
