my ego driver, which worked perfectly, has ceased to work properly.

problem: with all 3 pots all the way up the volume is still very low.

the gain seems to work, it is too quiet to tell about tone, and the volume must be cranked to hear it all.

i have checked for unwanted bridges and every thing seems good. leading up to the problem the jacks loosened possibly causing some unwanted connections. if i remember properly i was getting no sound when the pedal was engaged and after working on it no sound ever, and i don't remember how i eventually had very low output. at some point in time i think i remember seeing a strand of wire that possibly was connecting terminals 2 & 3 on the gain section of the pcb. i think i have a failed component somewhere.

does anyone have a guess of where to start?

thanks for reading,
matt poole

p.s.
i will probably be slow to respond because i won't be online tomorrow.

Build Reports / 2 neutrinos - one box
April 29, 2011, 05:29:21 AM
i built a new pedal today, it is two neutrinos in a 1590bb. on both pcbs i used the resistor/cap recipe for the burst with the exception of c4, r3, and r4 where i used the changes recommended here... http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=160.0

i used asymmetrical clipping with a100k pots for drive and volume for one and symmetrical with a500k pots on the other. i used rc5448p chips for both.

the tone is a lot fuller one these than the black version i built a while back, however it doesn't cut quite as well. i actually need turn the tone all the way up. on my previous build i barely used the tone. i was shocked that the pedal with 100k pots is slightly louder than the 500k pedal and seems grittier, maybe that's the asymmetrical clipping.

i apologize for my wiring, i got lazy i guess. i also ran out of solder and had to use larger solder that i stopped using long ago because it is messy and doesn't melt well enough.

General Questions / fatpants c1 question
April 27, 2011, 02:04:04 AM
will this cap be ok for a fatpants? (i was worried about it's tolerance being a high %)

- Manufacturer: Panasonic

- Part Number: ECK-ATS221MB

- Capacitor Type: Ceramic Disc, Y5P Dielectric

- Capacitor Value: 220pF

- Capacitor Voltage Rating: 250VAC Y1 / 440VAC X1

- Capacitor Tolerance: +/-20%

- Operating Temperature: -25C to 125C

- Lead Spacing: 0.295" (7.0mm)

- Diameter: 0.276" (7.00mm) Max

i have the board populated minus c1, i some how missed that when sourcing parts.

thanks,
matt

Tech Help - Projects Page / fatpants - chip question
April 20, 2011, 04:27:02 PM
i am building a fatpants and have everything ordered except the IC. i used tayda for the first time for some the parts (i ordered a boat load of sockets, resisters, leds, bezels, etc.), i eagerly await that package.

is the TC1044SCPA pretty much the best option or is there a more readily available / good alternative?

i haven't been able to find these at most places, and when i have found them the shipping makes it not even worth it.

thanks
-matt

edit: i probably should have put this in general questions instead of tech help, sorry.

Open Discussion / effectsconnection.com
April 12, 2011, 06:22:52 PM
does anybody on here know when effectsconnection.com will be back up and running? i haven't been able to access their site for a few days now.

they are my favorite store, mostly because they ship things out very quickly, and i am wanting to order some parts. I also use pedal parts plus and smallbear, but small bear takes way too long to ship. (maybe i am not patient enough)

Build Reports / cupcake - in a snickers tin
April 03, 2011, 02:35:54 AM
here is a cupcake build i am working on, everything is done but the pots, they currently function backwards and there is a very high output & nasty hum.

edit:
i forgot to mention i used A10K pots.

edit #2:
i not only used the wrong pots, i wired the volume pot backwards... oops.  ::) (i need more sleep)

General Questions / bass and acoustic DI/Preamps
April 02, 2011, 05:43:59 PM
Does anyone know of a good place to find bass and acoustic pre schematics? I would like to build some to replace my existing gear. Should be a simple project, but I don't know enough to freestyle it yet . :P

Requests / Peanut Butter Model T (OVER DRIVE)
March 31, 2011, 04:12:13 AM
i would love to see a pcb of aphex's Peanut Butter Model T. however i may be the only one who has an interest in it.  :P

http://www.aphekstudio.com.au/Aphek-PBMT.html

i owned one of these for a brief period, but i let it go. great pedal, but there something about the diodes' clipping as a note decayed that i didn't like. besides that it was awesome. has anyone else played one of these?

i am working on a project where i plan on placing a neutrino (black ver.), egodriver, and cupcake in one enclosure. i know i want the cupcake first but i haven't  been able to decide what order for the ego and neutrino. i built the neutrino already and i like it as a light drive and will probably use the ego for heaver situations.

does anyone have both pedals, if so what order do you use them in?

also, does anyone see this as problematic?

i use a bbe "supa charger", and i only have the 100MA available, my delay and reverb have the 200MA spots. i don't think i will be drawing too many MA's, but i could be wrong.

thanks in advance

i have 3 candy tins that are 6"x2"x2". they are thin but ridged enough i believe.

i was thinking of making some pedals out them, does anyone know if using such a thin enclosure will increase noise or cause me problems?

also as a side note: i have completed a neutrino (black), what madbeans overdrive/distortion would complement it well? i am looking for a full sound with some low end. i want to put that neutrino as well as another pedal in one of those tins.

thanks for your time guys,
-matt

General Questions / Neutrino Cap Question (black version)
February 21, 2011, 05:49:41 PM
I am getting ready to build a neutrino (black) version. this is my first build so i am a complete novice. after purchasing my parts i realized i only got one 150n cap. instead of paying $5 shipping for a capacitor, i was wondering what would happen if i omitted c4 or c5. i am already omitting c2 according the directions.

thanks in advance, i know this is probably a dumb question.
