So I've built 5 1590A builds and this is the first one I'm having an issue with.

I've done due diligence and in stumped. The effect bypasses fine, but when engaged, the led lights up, but there is no sound. At all. Like not even static or anything as the volume and gain are turned up.

I've done all the normal checks and the only thing I can find that's strange is that the "out" pad on the effect has continuity to ground. This seems strange and would explain why there is total silence when engaged.

I had a similar issue on another build, which ended up being explained by the fact I had mixed up the tip and sleeve of the output jack. I've checked, and that is. It the case here.

I've technically mounted the switch upside down from the normal wiring (to make the Led easier to mount), but besides that there's nothing done outside the norm. I've cheek the switch wiring a dozen times and everything is right.

Not sure what my voltages should be at the 4558, but they seem right. Since there are none listed in the build document, I can't be positive. Maybe I've tried the IC when soldering.

Anything else I should look at right off the bat?

I've been on the hunt for  a fuzz that plays well with an active bass (for my bass player.)

I picked up a King Tut fuzz which is a clone of a BAT Pharoah. I got Nick from Dunwich Amps to suggest any mods, which I did. I changed one of the clipping sections from diode to LED which has less of  volume drop than the recommend diodes.

Here's some pics

Not sure what knobs I'm going to put on.

Build Reports / Finished up my Sunking 2 build.
February 08, 2015, 11:24:40 PM
So I've been working on a Madbeans Sunking 2, which is a Klon clone... Heres a couple pics. Finished it up today. I'll take a quick video sooner or later..

And a quick vid.

Open Discussion / true bypass presents new issues.
January 29, 2015, 03:22:22 AM
So I recently finished up my pork barrel from madbeans, which is a Boss ce2 clone.

I plugged it in today and I've run in to a problem. I wired the Pork Barrel for true bypass and placed it as the first pedal in my fx loop, exactly where my CE2 was. Now all my delays and reverbs are after it, so it goes Pork Barrel, Dispatch Master, Echorec, Ibanez DE7 back out to the fx return.

Now when I turn on my dispatch master, I get a HUGE volume boost. The enforce does it too, but not as bad.

Is this because the CE2 is buffered and the PORK barrel is not?

So I just finished my pork barrel and I have a strange issue.

First off, I did the build with a MN3101 and the MN3007.
Second, I did the LED LFO mod.

So my issue is when the effect is on, the LED only lights up when I have the rate knob all the way to the left, and then it fades away as I turn it right. It completely goes off around the 2:00 o clock mark.

The second issue is that the effect is extremely weak. There's a small volume boost when I engage the effect, but that's about it.

Here's a pic of the PCB.

Pleas tell me where to start.

Open Discussion / Power Supply Suggestions
December 16, 2014, 02:24:06 PM
So I'm getting a new headboard from Lyt pedalboards for Christmas. I really want to upgrade my power supply long with the board.

I'm currently using a Joyo supply that is decent, but I want something more heavy duty. Main thing being it has an IEC cord, 9 and 12 volt outputs are a must, and I'd like an 18, even though I don't currently need it.

Out front, I'm running all analog, low draw pedals (Pitchblack, EHX octave multiplexer, Bad Horsie, Phase 90, a fuzz or two, and a GGG trem) so I can daisy chain most of those.

In the loop I've got some higher draw digital stuff, EQD dispatch master, Ibanez de7, Boss ce2, Echorec and a Ditto.

WhAt do you guys recommend for a single psu that can handle this stuff and still leave me room to expand? I'm thinking either a Voodoo Labs PP2 or maybe a Cioks? The one thing  I don't like about the Cioks is the non barrel connectors on them.

Suggestions?

So I've decided to delve nose first into pedal making. I've made less than a dozen pedals, but really want to start doing builds more regularly.

In an effort to invest in my hobby, and at the insistence of my amp/pedal builder buddy, I'm going to put together a stock order from Mouser for my basic resistors and capacitors.

The price break on resistors is 200, so I'm going to pick up 200 of each of the following resistors;
1k,
10k.
100k,
470k,
1M,
10M,
5.1k,
4.7k,
27k,
33k,
2.7k
47k
470R
4k7
56k
330k
150k
220k
5k1
1k5
422k
15k
2k
12k
392k
1k8
560R
68k
3k9
10R 1/2w

I've also compiled a list of capacitors;
Capacitors
47n
1uf
6n8
100pF
33n
3n3
8n2
470pF
47pF
47uF
100n
10n
100uF
68n
390n
150n
82n
390pF
2n2
27n
820pF
3n9
4u7
220uF
10uf

Now the resistors are relatively inexpensive, but the caps start to add up quickly, even in bulk. I was initially going to order 50 of each capacitor, but I'm thinking that might be a little excessive. While I'd like to have a decent stockpile, I don't want to get a bunch of parts that will sit around forever.

If you guys could skim over this list, and let me know if there are some glaring omissions, or if some of the caps are true oddballs, please let me know.

With the caps, if there are some that are pretty rare, versus the more common ones, please feel free to suggest quantities. Im kinda jumping in blind (to an extent) and want to spend my money whe I need it.

Thanks folks!

Introductions / New guy here...
September 10, 2014, 01:02:45 PM
Hey guys. I'm an amateur pedal builder from CT. I've built less than a dozen pedals and have never sourced my own parts. After talking with a builder find of mine, I've decided to start sourcing my own parts and start doing some PBC builds.

My hope is to build enough pedals that I get comfortable enou to start designing my own pedals eventually. I have a friend who's a great builder and is super knowledgable, so between him and the Interwebz, Im hoping to make my own pedals eventually.

For now, I'm goin got build a pork barrel, and an octaver to start. I play in a doom band, so I'm sure some fuzz and OD will be on the docket sooner rather than later.

Thanks!
