Build Reports / Catch 22
November 09, 2014, 03:46:51 AM
Just finished the Grind Custom Catch 22. I really like it, to me it's way smoother of an overdrive then the blues breaker type OD's I current have on my board, which is what I was looking for.

For some reason my treble cut on the top left cuts backwards, so all the way to the right is no cutting and all the way to the left is fully cut?

I tried to use the a25k audio pot with a 18k resistor like how I guess the Timmy's are made today, but not sure I got it right. I ended up attaching it from lug 2 to lug 3 on the pot?

This pedal is incredibly loud, but that might be because of the charge pump. Unity for me is between 9 o'clock and 10 o'clock.

Even though the controls seem to be working funny, it sounds awesome and is just what I was looking for on my board.

Currently this is my pedal chain: Klon Centaur (clone)-> king of tone (clone) -> Timmy (clone) -> zendrive (clone) -> carbon copy -> timeline -> bigsky

Basically I like overdrives, delay and reverb

Build Reports / Queen of Bone from Rullywow
May 18, 2014, 04:34:20 AM
Just finished building the Queen of Bone by Rullywow. Luckily Ben designed this to run at 9v and 18v, because I forgot to order the charge pump, oops. So right now I am just running it at 9v until I order and receive a TC1044SCPA.

One mistake I made to help future builders was drilling the 9v plug in the middle of the back of the enclosure. This didn't leave enough room for the board. Definitely drill the hole closer to the bottom or base plate. I had to router out a longer hole and use a brass plate to cover it up. It actually looks pretty cool though with a long gold plate on the back, I'll include a pic.

Also, Ben was very helpful as I ended up having a few questions along the way.

Open Discussion / There must be a better way!
May 07, 2014, 02:35:00 PM
Hey guys, I wanted to get some feedback on general build costs. Any tip or tricks on keeping this down?

I recently built 3 klon klones and just ordered all the parts to build a KoT clone.  On average I spent about $65 on each klone and the king of tone clone cost me $120. This includes pre fabbed pcb.

Right now I am ordering from 3 different sites per pedal so I'm paying for shipping 3 times, frustrating!

1) I get most of my components from Mouser, resistors, caps ect.

2) I go to Small Bear for the hardware, pots, and whatever components Mouser doesn't have.

3) I go to Mammoth for the painted enclosure and knobs. I can't paint or powder coat so they seem to have a good selection and I just drill it at home.

4) oh yeah, also I go to Tayda or eBay for diodes I can't find on the previously listed sites.

Anyways, there must be a better way!  Looking for some insight from more experienced builders.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Build Reports / Aion Refractor build (klone)
May 04, 2014, 06:07:27 AM
Just built these two Aion Refractor boards today. Took me six hours from drilling to soldering to wiring. Just tested them, they work great!

Im not sure if I like the colors, definitely not traditional klone colors.

I'll be doing some Madbean boards too, I ordered the Sunking II and Kingslayer II as well.

Open Discussion / Supro fabbed PCB?
May 03, 2014, 04:53:39 PM
Can anyone point me in the direction of a Supro prefabricated PCB seller? Looking to make a Yellow Shark, Supreaux Deux, Superbolt, or Honey Bee type pedal, but don't want to do vero.

Thx,

Dan

Open Discussion / New build docs?
April 27, 2014, 06:37:35 PM
Does anyone know when the new build docs will be linked on the madbean projects page for the Sunking II, Kingslayer II and Deadringer II?

I'm interested in sourcing all the parts before the boards I ordered arrive.

I recently built a refractor pedal and all seems to be working okay except the volume I really low and the volume pot is not operating correctly. I noticed that on C19, C20, C21, and C22 I accidentally ordered non polarized 1uF electrolytic caps. I was supposed to order polarized ones.  Would this affect the volume pot specifically?

Here are my IC voltages:

2: 4.6
3: 1.24
4: 0
5: 4.5
6: 4.6
