I posted this in LectricFX help section. Any extra eyes would help. Odd voltages etc.

Looking for a tube amp that sounds rich/round. 3 sounds I'm looking for are nice tubey clean, edge of breakup and Full lead tone. Obviously pedals can achieve some of the previous but without a great sounding amp I'm struggling.  Just was looking at an Egnator tweaker 88 watt w/ 2/12. Never played one. I'll have about a grand. Been jonesing for a couple of Celestian Gold backs as well.

Any suggestions?

Anyone tried D310 diodes?

Listing says they are same as 1N695.
I ordered 10 for grins. Only a few Rubles...

General Questions / JRC 4560 Replacement?
April 03, 2018, 04:02:35 AM
Working up a distortion pedal that calls for a JRC4560. I have everything but. What would be best?  JRC4558, JRC4580,  TL062, 72, 82, NE5532. Started to look at data sheets but I'm called blearyeyes for a reason.... :P

I am going to experiment but any technical reasoning to pick one over another would be appreciated.

I haven't played my bass much lately but trying it out, I never reconciled active preamp to pedals.. How would I approach modding a pedal to work properly?

Open Discussion / NMOD (new mini oscilloscope day)
March 28, 2018, 02:59:41 AM
I got one of those $20 oscilloscope kits from our friends in China and built it today.
Somebody posted about these a while back.  Can't figure out if it's going to be useful or just fun to play with. ::)

I built 4 Demeter based optical clones off of Osh Park and haven't boxed them all. Ideally the meter would register the gain reduction of the comp. Unfortunately the Chinese are a bit shy on documents and it's been several years since I bought these meter kits but the circuit looks pretty simple. I built one up last night and it functions attached directly to the output of the pedal.

Now the challenge is to pick the control signal off of the Compressor circuit and have it work with the meter. I'll post links to what I have information wise if anyone's interested in it.

Oh and cutting a slot for the LEDs in the enclosure..

here's the compressor docs:

Open Discussion / Cheap Pedal Switchers any good?
March 07, 2018, 06:21:39 PM
I really am interested in getting a pedal switcher for my board. Which, if any of the cheap ones are good?

Looks like Fender did it's homework on their new line of pedals. Has anyone had first hand experience with them? Great demos online.

General Questions / What does a Pig Butt sound like?
February 27, 2018, 02:11:02 AM
I need to buy something from Brian or donate a few bucks.
Waiting for something new from Madbean!
What does the Pig Butt (op-amp muff) sound like? Have you build one? Do you like it?

Build Reports / Voodoo Child
February 19, 2018, 04:21:32 AM
Not one to post builds, but I've been trying to up my game a bit. With the help of Keefe etching the faceplate for me ( I couldn't get a clean transfer..next one!) and using Brejna's wonderful Pangea board I've finished it. I had an issue trying to get the LED to work on the board and while mucking about I blew up the switching circuit. So after pulling the pedal apart (I did have it working out of the box!) I had to switch over to standard bypass. At that point I gave up on hiding the wiring and just put it where it worked. So a bit of spaghetti is present. The Symmetry control was, I thought, acting funny (but I don't know why, scuse me while I kiss the sky.. sorry. Rabbit!) when with the help of a few generous madbeaners I figured out that I had the rotary washer for speed control set in the wrong spot. Gotta love those stupid mistakes.  Anyway I'm really happy at how it came out and hope to build better pedals.

Open Discussion / Looking for a quiet EQ project.
February 18, 2018, 02:18:11 AM
Do you know of a good EQ project?
Prefer not to deal with Vero but I could if push comes to shove.

I have a Bugera and a VOX AC15HW. Really night and day tone wise.
Would love the option to EQ/tune differing pedal combinations.

Should sell both amps and my car and buy a Matchless or something spectacular.

Having an audio engineering background I love me my EQz..
I bought a BOSS 7 band pedal in the early 80s and it was really noisy. Couldn't use it so I'm gun shy in that department.

I just had Keefe etch me a nice copper/black faceplate.
I have to drill it and finish it.
I really don't want to destroy it through experimenting!
Any tips?  Things to avoid?

When you need to halve a linear pot do you need to add a resistor to each side or does one in parallel across pins 1 and 3 work? I'm a space cadet fur sur.

I'll look at the schemo to figure out the pots configuration.

I read the secret life of pots but I am a bit dense and a genius at the same time.

Ever have one of those days?

ARGH!

Brane's Uni - Vibe works great except no on/off LED indicator. I try to make it better. POOF! I think I blew up the relay bypass circuit. Made it worse.. Ouch! Permanently BYPASSED!  I think it actually sounded like CLICK, CLICK.. POOF!  Crapola
Almost got it boxed.
Break time...
