Open Discussion / Cliff jacks
November 06, 2014, 09:50:03 PM
Hey guys,
I saw these jacks made by Cliff being sold in musikding for 0,25 Cents (euro) and i wanted to ask you guys if they are any good, or if they are crap. I usually buy open frame ones from switchcraft, but saw these and felt like asking for advice since i heard in here before that Cliff is not a bad manufacturer.

Best regards

Open Discussion / Question about resistors
November 04, 2014, 02:53:13 PM
Hi guys,
I'm working on my first order from mouser, but i will also orders a couple things from musikding at the same time, but i'm having trouble deciding if the xicon resistors from mouser are worth the difference in price from the resistors that are sold in musikding. Musikding sells resistors for 0,06 EU cents, and mouser sells Xicon resistors for 0,144 EU cents. Are they worth the difference?
Note that i have bought musikding resistors in the past, but since i've never seen a xicon resistor, i can't compare them.

Open Discussion / 1n34a work-alikes
November 03, 2014, 02:57:27 PM
Hi guys,
Just wanted to know if any of you had experience with the 1n34a work-alikes that smallbear sells in their store. Can i use them in the place of a 1n34a easily, or are they nothing alike the real deal?

Hi guys,
I finished a zero point mini, but it is not working. When it's off, the guitar has sound, but when i turn it on, i get absolutely no sound. So where should start i looking for the problem? I already checked for polar components soldered in reverse, and i think that my wiring is correct, so any thoughts?

Open Discussion / Question about wire
October 25, 2014, 10:01:50 AM
Hi guys,
I made a couple modifications on my guitar, and between them, i cutted a little too much of the two wires that go to the output jack, so i wanted to know if it is wise to solder a kind of "extension" with some wire, or is this going to have an impact on my guitar's tone? Note that i would be soldering a electronics wire, those normal isolated ones, to a push back wire, those they call vintage wire that are used on guitars. So, would this be a solution, or would i be better desoldering the push-back wire and soldering the "pedals" wire?

Open Discussion / Help with Mouser
October 21, 2014, 07:33:44 PM
Hi guys,
So, i'm trying to put together my first order from mouser but i can't understand one detail, and i had the hope you could help me. So, when i want to choose, for example a cap of a specific value and model, there are many results, with the same price and identical values in every aspect, but the code of the item is slightly different, and i wanted to know what's the difference between those items, for example: http://pt.mouser.com/Kemet/Passive-Components/Capacitors/Film-Capacitors/_/N-9x371?P=1z0x6frZ1yyc4mbZ1yznbzrZ1z0vn48Z1z0znw3Z1z0wrj5

Some of those are for large bulk orders, with minimum of 1000, but the others seem preety identical, so a little help here?

Open Discussion / Jtm45 = Bassman (clean) ?
October 17, 2014, 08:56:21 PM
Hi guys,
I'm thinking of getting a used jtm45 that is selling now as i'm looking for a good clean, in the Bassman ballpark, and since the jtm45 is based on the tweed bassman, i thought that it could be a good option, but i know that there are people that say their tones are nothing alike. So i wanted to ask for opinions, i wanted to know if the clean tone of the jtm45 would match the clean from the bassman, the dynamics and the full and warm tone, or if the jtm45 is more of a crunch amp, not that good for cleans. I can point out some artist like jimi hendrix, but notice that i'm not trying to replicate his tone at all, just for you to have a reference. Well, waiting for suggestions,

Best regards.

Open Discussion / Bugera v55
October 07, 2014, 04:04:43 PM
Hi guys,
I've found a guy who's selling a Bugera v55 for good price, and i wanted to know what was your opinion about this amp. It is for a clean sound, a more vintage blues sound. Does this amp can get close to a sort of tweed flavour? Also, what about taking pedals?

Tech Help - Projects Page / Harbinger one power supply
October 02, 2014, 03:17:06 PM
Hi guys,
Just a quick question regarding the Harbinger one project: There's the option of builting it to be used with a 9vdc power supply, rather than the original 18v, but do i need to purchase a charge pump pcb, or does the harbinger pcb has this option already and it is a matter of ommiting some parts? And i know that in the project there's a chart with the parts that i need to ommit for each option, but is this just what i need to do, or do i need to get a charge pump as well?

Also, what do you think is best option, regarding sound, 9v or 18v? Does it change that much?

Open Discussion / Building a Theremin
September 26, 2014, 01:12:56 PM
Hey guys,
I'm thinking about building myself a theremin to connect it to my guitar pedals and get some crazy psychedelic sounds, so i wanted to know if you guys built or know some projects out there for a theremin, because i was searching the web, and for what i saw it doesn't seem a tough build to complete, actually it seemed quite simple, but let me hear your thoughts.

Hi guys,
I found a guy who's selling an italian amp from the 70's from Steelphon amps, a steelphon phantom, but i never heard of that brand and can't find any information about it. The guy says it resembles a fender bassman tweed, but i would like to know more about the brand, before getting in touch with the guy, since he's kinda far from where i am.

This is the link to the amp, but it is a portuguese site so i'll translate the description: http://saoclemente.olx.pt/steelphon-phantom-valve-tube-reverb-tremolo-bend-iid-443639093

"Steelphon Phantom, 70's, has 40 watts valve, was fully restored, amplifier made in Italy, American amps style, resembles a fender bassman 'tweed'.
Has the common effects from the 70's, tremolo (depth, speed) and also has spring reverb. Over the 4 inputs (2 inputs per channel) are 4 switches ON-OFF: bright, reverb, bright, bend. Being "bright", like a treble boost. There is one for each channel. Was found and set the original 'Steelphon' plate of the cabinet, it can be seen in the last picture.

Valve Amplifier: circ. Power - 1 x ECC82 + 4x EL84 Circ.s Pre 2x - 1 x ECC83 each circ. Tremolo - 1 x ECC81 circ. Distortion - 1 x ECC83 circ.de Reverb - 1 x 86 ECL Total of 10 valves. The only original valve is the ECL86, the rest were already replaced."

The 760 dollar price is for both the cabinet and head.

So tell me what you guys think?

Hi guys,
i need you to answer me some questions regarding the weener wah project: do i need a 3pdt to do the boost switch? or can i do it with a carling dpdt? also i bought a tone tank inductor from joe, how do i wire it? it has 4 leads, each one with a different size, so i know that means something,  but what?

Open Discussion / Help choosing two speakers
August 10, 2014, 11:37:31 AM
Hi guys,
Some days ago i started a thread about some cabinets that i needed opinions, and i decided i would get a Montage cabinet, and now i'm currently deciding which speaker should i get. I'm leaning towards these ones:
  - celestion g12m greenback
  - celestion g12h-30 70th anniversary
  - WGS reaper 30 (g12h-30 equivalent)
  - eminence wizard 75w (g12h-30 equivalent)
  - eminence private jack (g12m equivalent)

This cabinet is intended for a weber jtm45 and will most of the time be used as open-back (at least if any of you doesn't tell me i should use it as closed-back :D). I wanted to get an Hendrix vibe, very punchy, clear, like his catfish tone, if you understand what i mean. Anymore suggestions will be welcomed!

Open Discussion / Palmer 2x12 cabinet
August 02, 2014, 03:27:19 PM
Hi guys,
I've been searching for extension cabinets, and i'm thinking of getting this palmer cab http://www.thomann.de/pt/palmer_pcab212gbkob.htm
It is in europe, so customs are out of the equation and thomann doesn't charge shipping on orders that are over 199 euros.
The cab seems well built, it is an open-back and comes with two greenbacks.
What do you guys think about it?

Open Discussion / Hendrix T-shirt
August 01, 2014, 09:22:03 AM
Hi guys,
My uncle offered me a t-shirt he found in a store. The t-shirt has written on it "woodstock 1969" and has a picture of Hendrix (more of a drawing/artwork) playing a Strato with a les paul style neck. Did that ever happened? Because i'm kinda confused.

General Questions / Zero point mini's led
July 04, 2014, 08:43:18 PM
Hi guys,
Just wanted to ask a question about the diffused red led, that is on part list for the zero point mini. I was going to order this led, but i don't know if it is the same as diffused, since musikding doesn't have any with "diffused" written on it: http://www.musikding.de/LED-3mm-red?lang=eng
Would this work, or should i order another one?

General Questions / Zero point mini Knobs
July 04, 2014, 02:26:39 PM
Hi guys,
I need to choose 3 knobs for the zero point mini project, but since the space is tight, i wanted to know how large can they be? Would 15mm be to much for the zero point mini? To save space, instead of using 2 different types of knobs, i could use 6 plastic shaft knobs, so i wouldn't need any knob. What do you think about that?

Open Discussion / Doctor Tweek parts

Hi guys,
Just wanted to ask you if their parts are any good. I need to order a j201, a pt2399, 2x mini-spdt and a 100pf ceramic cap. Should i keep away from any of these items or are they good quality?
