Tech Help - Projects Page / Porkbarrel distorting
May 12, 2013, 02:01:26 AM
Just finished a Pork Barrel build and everything is working great. The LFO mod is working and I hear the chorus, but when I pick hard there is a lot of distortion. Will it help to box it? Any suggestions?

Everything is stock except for the LFO mod. It is MN3007.

Thanks,
Bill

General Questions / Pork barrel

Building a pork barrel with the MN3007. Instructions say to omit D4. Do I need to put a jumper there?

Thanks in advance.

General Questions / Kingslayer OD and Afterlife
April 23, 2013, 07:54:25 PM
Just built a Kingslayer, what a great pedal! Definitely "box worthy."

I think I read that the Kingslayer works great with the Afterlife. Would there be a way of turning on the OD portion of the Kingslayer and an Afterlife at the same time with a 3PDT switch? Plus LED of course! I'm thinking this could go from nice crunch to soaring, sustaining leads. Also, could you run a toggle switch to the 9v (or input, output) line to turn off the Afterlife if you wanted just the OD from Kingslayer?

Thanks in advance and thanks everyone who have helped me so far.

General Questions / Effect loop
April 16, 2013, 04:49:45 PM
I'm just getting back into playing and building again so I have a million questions. Sorry.

I have a Laney VC30 that has an effects loop. I'm an old school rocker and have always been content with a guitar, and a couple of dirt boxes and maybe a Chorus. I've always ran them straight into the amp and have never plugged anything into the effects loop.

Now I'm going to be playing the type of music that requires delays and modulation effects. Plus I'm building a Bloviator. Would the effect loop be a good place to put these?

What do you use your effects loop for?

General Questions / Modulation Board
April 14, 2013, 09:59:59 PM
Just ordered a Multiplex Jr. board and because I wanted to be like all the cool kids I ordered a modulation board too. Now I'm sitting here wondering what a modulation board does? Does it add a tremolo or vibrato effect? A vibe effect? I know I need this but want to know what I need it for.

General Questions / Soldering tip
April 14, 2013, 07:33:56 AM
I use the Hakko chisel tip. Was wondering what everybody else used. Is the pencil tip better etc.

I NEED to build something (know what I mean?). I have a couple matched PNP germaniums from Small bear, can anybody suggest a simple fuzz that I can build and have fun modifying? Be a good learning experience for me.

I'm placing an order at Mouser tomorrow and was wondering what 2.1 dc jack you use. Also the sleeve that goes into it. Also, if you use the Fresnel lens for the LED where do you get those from. Does Mouser carry them?

Thanks

Tech Help - Projects Page / Question about Big Muff
April 08, 2013, 02:48:17 AM
I'm in the process of populating a Mudbunny board to Skreddy P19 specs. I'm using the spreadsheet at http://juansolo.demon.co.uk/stompage/Muffs.htm.

Got a quick question. What is the 9v Q4+ that is supposed to be a 100r. I can't figure out where that would go.

Also R24 on the mudbunny looks like it is left blank on the p19. Do I put a jumper there?

Thanks guys

I'm looking to build a simple delay pedal. It doesn't need to be complicated it will be used primarily for slap back. Any suggestions?

General Questions / Your boxing technique
April 03, 2013, 01:49:07 AM
Just populated Green Bean and Fat Pants boards and want to put them in the same 1590bb box. It got tight quickly. Made me really appreciate the craftsman I've seen on this board.

Do you connect all the wires before you put anything in the box or do you secure everything in the box and then wire it? Any tricks from you masters would be greatly appreciated.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Fat Pants Question
April 02, 2013, 07:10:59 PM
First of all, thank you to all who helped on my Green Bean problems. I couldn't figure it out and put it aside for awhile. Fortunately I had a second board and it is working and sounds great.

I was thinking about putting a Fat Pants in the same box to boost the Green Bean for leads. I have a question about voltages. The Madbean build doc says to adjust the trim pot until there is 9v on the drain of Q2. Problem is I can't get down to 9v. The lowest I can get to is 11.62 v. Still sounds good so maybe this is not a problem, but I'm thinking maybe it could sound better.

Here is what I'm getting.

Power supply is a "One Spot" measuring at 9.49v

Q1
D  11.62
S  0.62
G  0.0

Q2
D  11.62
S  0.62
G  0.0

IC TC1044SCPA
1  9.49
2  4.85
3  0
4  .11
5  .30
6  4.9
7  6.31
8  9.49

Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance

Tech Help - Projects Page / Green Bean problem
March 27, 2013, 04:08:54 AM
Just built a Green Bean and no sound.

I checked for continuity and there is continuity between the wire that goes in and ground but I can't see anywhere where there is a solder bridge.

Also, the diode at D6 was really heating up.

I'm frustrated and at the same time excited about learning how to troubleshoot. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

P.S. How would I measure the voltage of the IC and transistors? Do I go from ground to each leg?

General Questions / Shielded cable
March 19, 2013, 01:43:40 PM
Couple questions about shielded cable.

1.  I've read you should shield both the the "in" and "out". Is that the in and out from the guitar jacks or to and from the board?

2.   Does it matter where you ground the shield to?

3.  If this cuts down on noise, would it be a good practice for every build?

Thanks in advance

Building a Cosmopolitan and have a couple of questions.

How do I know what the collector-base-emitter is on Q2 and Q3? Those transistors are round.

Does anybody have  suggestion for substituting the AC127?

Thanks guys,

Open Discussion / Cutting PCB's the easy way
March 10, 2013, 06:41:28 AM
Had some points on my Amazon CC and picked up a wet tile saw. This thing whizzes through PCB's and because it is wet it cuts down on all the fiberglass dust being thrown around. I am impressed.
