No kidding, I'm wondering if there are for example, as a delay pedal uses the 2290 chip. Does the compressor use various chips to achieve the compression effect? 

OK tech guru's, which component makes the compressor compress?

Still not working, I don't get it? This board is tight in the case though, I may have damaged a component. I ordered a signal tracer / injector pen to test all the components. I'll let you know what I come up with when I get it. Thanks for all your help Jimilee!

I disconnected R26. I was going to put a switch to cut & add it. But now it doesn't work with it connected or not. Geuss I gotta hit all joints to eliminate a cold spot??

Any idea on this MXR rebuild. using an audio probe, everything to the left of the red line with the exception of the (4) 47nj100's with the purple X on them gives me sound when the phaser button is engaged. Also the (2) lugs on each chip with red circles on them. I do have normal sound from my guitar when the phaser is in off position.
So should there be sound off anything to the right of the red line? Thanks in advance.

There are 4 leads: R8,(R24) R7,(R26) R16,(R27) & Q1,(Q5) but only 3 lugs on the pot?

I have an after-market rebuild kit. see pic.

Do R7,(R26) & R16,(R27) tie together to one lug on the pot?

It doesn't matter which 2 lugs go to which Resistors does it?

Well I did it, the effect does soften when dialed down about 25%. But I can only dial it back about 25% before the volume starts to drop along with the effect. cool stuff.

So could  I put a potentiometer instead of an on/off switch on R28?

Gotcha, so now that it's workin I'm thinkin about adding the script mod with a mini push button. Where would I get that?

So, great news! I guess resoldering all the joints fixed it! Praise to you all for your comments. My first DIY has become a success thanks to madebeenpedals Guru's.
