Title: Weener Wah vs. Mallory 150 caps
Post by: EVAtronic on July 13, 2012, 08:53:32 PM
I'm building a couple of Weener Wahs, and decided at least one should have the 'mojo' caps, so I ordered Mallory 150s as recommended in the Weener Wah PDF. It takes two 0.1 mfd and three 0.22 mfd. They arrived and sheesh...they're HUGE. But no wonder, they're rated for 630 volts, so the dielectric has to be thicker than 'normal' caps. They're axial caps, by the way.

Did I misinterpret or misunderstand the recommendation? I belive I bought the caps from SmallBear. I have 'dry fitted' them, and it does appear I can make them work, although of course they won't all sit flat on the board, some will have go on top of the others, my finished board will look like a small stack of (toneful) firewood.

they make 60v and 100v caps for the 150 series but smallbear doesn't offer them. if you can make the 600v fit, i say go for it, it won't make much of a difference.
