Title: Dig Dug LED question

On the Dig Dug, the 47k resistors (R17-24) are just the current limiting for the LEDs right?  I tested one of the LEDs i'm gonna use with a 47k and it was wayyy dim.  If i use a different resistor will it affect the sound or sweep of the pots at all?
