Title: What to build with these?
Post by: bigb1984yaherd on March 31, 2012, 03:05:10 PM
I got a few UA741CN's and NE555P's laying around. Just wondering what i could build with these ICs.

there are tons of 555 projects about, but none of them are really guitar effects. The so-called atari punk console is a pretty neat noise-maker for example.

I think the MXR Distortion+ uses the 741

The Flap Jack Overdrive (Hot Cake) also uses an LM741.  I used that exact chip (ua741) for my Flapjack although i believe theres no difference between the LM and UA from what i was told.  You can get the project files on Freestompboxes.org, its an easy build and not your typical overdrive.  Almost turns into a fuzz in the last 90% of the Gain turn.
Good Luck
Paul.
