Hey dudes,
I hope its ok to post this here, just thought you guys might find this info interesting. I put in a decent sized order with Tayda for a variety of components and i read someone post the question "what sort of quality is tayda's stuff" on another forum, probably cause its so cheap. Anyway, this video is my initial impression of their stuff. Hope you like it!
Paul
I'm interested to try the 3pdt's. One thing I have noticed is the screws on the knobs strip fairly easily. They're cheap enough that I can order spares in case that does happen though.
I was playing around with the 3pdts after the video and yeah, they feel like any other i've ordered before. 3 dollars is the cheapest i've found so far (without ordering 1000 :) )
I think all davies are like that? There are much better quality knobs then these davies style knobs out there, problem is, when you build so many (for yourself), you start cutting costs! lol
Paul
I've been using their 3pdt's and have no complains about them yet, as long as they don't wear out (same goes for their toggles too, so far so good). I wasn't a fan of the black davies I just got from them though, the just look and feel a little cheaper than what I've received from pedal parts and small bear. Just my opinion though. Their vero is nice, solders up really clean and easy. And I love how well they sort/label and package everything.
Hmmm, thats interesting. The only other place i have gotten my davies from, is from mammoth...I didnt notice any difference, so they both must be cheapo's. thanks for the tip!
Paul
The ones I got from tayda had kind of sharp edges and the painted line was kinda rough on a couple. The pedalparts ones are more polished and glossy, I've only bought the 1510 clones. Of course they both work just fine :)
Thanks for posting this, it's good to hear about experiences with suppliers. If that was my desk, there would be an ashtray and a mug of coffee/bottle of beer, depending on the time of day...... :D
Paul
These knobs seem ok...the white lines are painted solid and they are glossy...but they feel pretty cheap, so I'm not sure. Hard to say for sure without seeing a small bear / ppp knob. If your already buying the cheap version you might as well get them from tayda as they are the cheapest i have found so far. Mammoth - 68c each, tayda 49c. You'd have to buy 500+ from mammoth before you get them cheaper. 1c cheaper.
Dutch, One of the rare occassions there isnt a beer on my desk :)
Looks good. I will certainly check them out.
That reminds me of my order from Mammoth. Everything was nicely packaged and labeled in dozens of little ziplock bags. Those should come in handy for picking parts for my next build.
Hey man, just wanted to say I've watched a lot of your videos on YouTube and they've been super helpful. I was looking into Tayda as I came across your video then decided to order after seeing it. Thanks for putting all that work into making your videos, it's really helped a lot!
'Davies' is kinda like 'Frisbee'.
In fact, many places I have shopped claim to sell 'Davies Style' knobs.
The best ones I have gotten came from Small Bear, and while the others have seemed a little more cheaply made, they all worked.
Thanks for the positive feedback viper i aprreciate it.
I agree CRMoA. I noticed last night these 'davies' have a different grub screw (black) on them to that of the ones i bought from mammoth (brass colored). So yeah, they are different, anyway, like you said, they all work the same.
Paul
I kinda drifted off topic, and I actually have something to say................
Placed my second order recently w/Tayda.
First went off w/o a hitch. Fast, accurate, good prices.
The second had a glitch. I ordered a couple ICs (not cheap), and got two fuses in the package instead.
Sent an email. They replied the next day, offered to refund $5.00 to my Paypal account or credit my $9.00 to my account. Took the credit, because I will order again.
They took good care of me, right away!

My experience with tayda is super good on the overall.
However, i had to unscrew 4 of these davies clones knobs, the head of the screw broke immediately in 3 of the 4 i was unscrewing, the knobs were still solidly attached to the pots so i had to saw through them to remove them ..
Gee that sounds like a PITA add4, i hope mine dont do that :o Still not sure if im a fan of the tayda knobs. The only knob ive had that screwed up (literally) was one of the skinny ones from mammoth (davies 1900H). the plastic thread of the knob, threaded out so the grub screw became loose and the knob was a throw away.
I downgraded in quality somewhere, i started using the jaycar alumunium knobs, then started using these plastic knobs to save some $$$. Once you buy 10+ their pretty reasonably priced (2 bucks each approx). Havent found a knob thats as good so far. Maybe similar to the mammoth aluminiums? MUCH BETTER then the futurlec alumniums which are so-so. Their just top notch, heavy, solid aluminium, the indicator on the knob is actually carved out, you might be able to see it in the below video...I think for black and silver, im just going to get them. Anyway just thought id share that.

Thanks for the review! I was planning to do a few mini boards, but it seems Tayda does not carry 9mm pots (the little green guys). I can't find them. Am I just a fool?
Nope, sadly they don't have them (9mm pots)
Bummer!

I bought some the other day- I guess it depends which store you go to. :)

???
Just got my second order from Tayda, both have been really good. On the first one, I was missing five resistors, but I didn't bother reporting it, as I had a thousand pieces in the order and complaining about 5 cents seemed to be counterproductive in terms of cost. Second order is in, and everything looks good. Really happy that they are getting more solder lug pots in, makes life a little bit easier. They really stepped up the packaging on the second order too, as all of the parts were individually packed and labelled, as opposed to some being grouped on the first.
As far as the Davies style knobs go, yeah, they aren't as high a quality as the stuff I get from PPP, and the paint job on the lines has been so so on a few, but they're half the price of everywhere else, so I'm not complaining. Haven't tried their 3PDT yet, but will likely order some next time.
Amazed at the price points from them and the turnaround time on the orders.
Are their 3pdt's any good?
I have used about 10 with no problems as of yet. They look and feel the same as the ones I got of das musikding and Dr Tweek
EDIT: Has anyone ordered their capacitors? Any opinions? (Also, how big are they - Panasonic 50v size or Xycon RAWR 630v size?)
Was placing an order last night. With 153 items in my cart, I got an error message that I hadn't met the minimum $5 order.
I didn't know whether to :( or :).
They have some slightly annoying gaps in what they carry (and not just the expensive/rare stuff - several cheap Fairchilds, too), especially random giant gaps in the resistors, but I think the price of the switches, chips, and transistors and low shipping costs make up for that. I'll be splitting pretty evenly between them, Smallbear, and Pedal Parts Plus.
I have noticed that too (gaps). Thats right, it was a TL1054...they dont even have TC1044. only the MAX1044, which i probably wouldnt get again after the last one all but caught fire :o Which is a shame, cause id like to just get it all in the one order.
I have used a couple of their 3pdt's now and i cant tell the difference. Same with their econo in/out jacks. Cant tell the difference, they feel smooth enough to me anyway.
Paul
I placed an order from them. Extremely fast and cheap! DCs, knobs, caps, resistors and 3PDTs are equal to anything I've gotten from PPP, Mouser, and SB.
Only problem was they forgot a pack of 5 capacitors. Luckily, then are an easy to find value, so I had some extras already. PPP and SB have also forgotten parts. Mouser is the only place that has never screwed up an order.

Hello, to me has been the same but then they sent me what he had missed, send an email explaining the situation that is sure to send back what has been missing. contact@taydaelectronics.com
P. S. sorry for my English ;D

Love Tayda, but not a fan of their econo in/out jacks. I bought two to try out and they were so loose that 1/4 inch cables just slid right out.
SB
Just got a smallish order yesterday. The fact that they now label everything is a big step up. The fact that 8 pots were missing the nuts & washers is a mild disappointment. Anybody know the basic specs on those nuts?
I got a couple chicken head knobs--they definitely are less solid than the ones I got from AES/tubesandmore. The smaller knobs feel even flimsier. I have a feeling it won't matter in actual use, but I'll fit some other knobs until I'm sure they won't need to be removed.
Very good, unbiased review. I've ordered about 5 times from them and they always come through for me. I'll have a few orders missing some parts, but I also had 1 order where every 10 pack of resistors was 11. ;D
Their parts aren't of the HIGHEST quality, but for the price I believe its unbeatable. I'll admit the thin lead components can be a big of a hassle as they are more prone to moving when soldering, but they sound just as good as any others I've tried. I prefer their econo jacks over mammoths, those where really bad. 80% of them the nut/threading was off so it would never set tight. These are more solid and I'd suggest tensioning the lugs a bit if the cable is sliding out easy.
I have a 10 pack of 3PDT's I'm going through, IIRC I got them from Tayda. The lugs for some reason are oxidized or burnt looking so they don't transfer heat properly. I file them a bit, then use some flux on inside to get a nice connection, but for a newbie they would give you a hard time. I've had this same problem with mini toggles before from Futurlec.
My last 3 orders from them I've gotten in less than a week from the other side of the states. Definitely a huge plus. If your looking for something they don't have, compile a list of what you want and send them a message on FB or leave it on their wall. I've emailed them in the past and they were very responsive and accepting to my suggestions. I'm seeing a lot of them appearing now about 6 months or so later.
Okay, so my fourth order came in, in excess of 7000 pieces, got it in 10 days. Doing a quick count, it looks like they got the order almost completely right, with the exception of being short 10 resistors. So on a $570 order, they were off by $0.10. Pretty good performance in my books. Just placed another order for enclosures and pancake jacks.
Oh yeah! I made a 'part 2' Tayda Review video, includes a bunch of stuff i didnt order in the last video.
2 things I probably wouldnt touch. First is their PCB. Its horrible. The boards chips and breaks as the drill bit its. It will work, probably, but it looks REALLY bad.
The second is the Led bezels. The reason i dont like them is because, If you push down on the led on the front of the stompbox, the led would push out the plastic stopper on the back of it quite easily, and the LED would fall out. I got around this in my latest build by using a fair bit of glue from the gluegun to stop the led / stopper from coming out, if i / someone was to push the LED on the front of the stompbox. It doesnt take much force to push it out either.
The review (part 2):
Hmmm. I have good experiences with Tayda personally. Never had any mixups in my orders and as a general rule I find their products as pretty good quality at good price. I use thier pcboards and bezels and don't have a problem with them... I find their pc board actually better than the stuff I have got through Jaycar, and the bezels as good as more expensive ones I've purchased elsewhere.
Just felt it important to give 2c with all these opinions are being expressed.
Really nzCdog? (PCB) Maybe its my drill bits or something...has your tayda pcb chipped / cracked as the drill bit exits? I've never had that problem with jaycar PCB before...I think the jaycar stuff is more fiberous...im not sure the tayda PCB is actually fiberglass. Im interested to give it another go now, maybe i was being to forceful with the drill press.
I have to disagree with the bezels though. Those little plastic stoppers do nothing to stop the led from being pressed down. It's a pita to have to gluegun them down imo.
Paul
The sharp edge on the Tayda bezels are to stop people sticking their fingers in them ;) more seriously, I didn't realise what the plastic bungs were for until about the four or fifth pedal. My compressor has masking tape holding the LED in :-[
Hey bro, its only my opinion. :) I haven't read this thread through, but I'm sure it's been mentioned that Tayda is a cheap and cheerful merchant, not the high quality & high price type. Thus my expectations and opinions are moderated to that context.
Never had any board drilling problems with the Tayda and I really mean that, just in and out like butter. They're prolly not as nice as some more expensive stuff, but of $1.16 each or whatever it is they're fine by me. And yes, I've been disappointed with the quality of Jaycar boards man, no joke, the copper surface on the two I bought has was faintly uneven and caused wasted sheets of PNP through tansfers that just wouldn't stick. I threw my second Jaycar copperclad out :(
The plastic stoppers can fall out of the bezels, but for 3c each I wouldn't care if they had no stopper at all... Like I said cheap and cheerful, good quality & good price IMHO. Don't think of me as 'disagreeing' with you or anyone else man, I just wanted to add my experience to the thread cause it was a different one. :)
Thats odd...total opposite of what i've experienced (pcb). When i drill my tayda PCB it cracks and chips. I might drill a bit and post a photo on here of what i mean, it looks terrible...Do you use a drill press or dremel? Maybe the drill press has too much force and, sort of, busts through the last bit of the board as it exits...
I agree, its all about quality vs cost. Some things are very similar and much cheaper, so you obviously go with the cheaper version. the only thing i would say to "steer clear of" are things that I consider to be fundamentally non-functional. An led that pops out the other side with minimal force is one of them. But as i said early, this can be rectified with a hot glue gun, gets a bit messy but you can do it. Or dont add the glue and hope that no one actually touches / presses (lightly) down on the LED. I also think the jaycar bezels look better. But....hey are 10 times the cost, tayda are 17c each, jaycar around about $2 approx...so yeah...i think ill just go grab my glue gun :D
Paul
I just use dremel by hand... with the pcboard taped to a sheet of mdf. Bummer about that cracking, that is sooo frustrating.
Ohhh and I love hot glue, it's in just about every pedal I've made :-[ ;D

Its essential if you ask me :D
I wonder if its the dremel thats making the difference. Might have to try the Tayda PCB again with less force. Mainly so i can just use it up, i bought 4 boards of the stuff lol
Paul
OMG that is cheap...!!! I pay $90 pesos for one 3PDT... Has anyone made an order to Mexico...?!?!?! would like to know how that turned out, since I have never made an international order, I`m thinking of putting $20 usd on the line, but have to get a credit card first :-\
Once my aunt sent me a box, and the customs cost was more than the price of the objects in the box :-[
