You could try a C taper pot, and maybe lower the value to 500K or even 250K.

Actually, a log/audio taper pot will work better in this situation for what the OP is wanting. A "C" taper (reverse audio) will actually make the gain come up faster than a linear pot.

A log/audio pot will make the gain come up slower at the start, and for most of the rotation. The gain will come up faster in the last bit of travel at the CW (maximum) end, from about 3 o'clock to 5 o'clock.

The glitterratti doesn't have a whole lot of range in the overdrive to begin with.  It's kind of like all or nothing with a little change in between.

if true, so wondered if there was any way to make it more moderate?

You're right. I meant to hit A. I hit C, and didn't go back and change it.

Use a lower value pot.  But your kind of defeating the goal of this pedal IMO.

Try a 1M log/audio pot for the gain pot and see if you like it. It won't change the function of the pedal, it will just spread the low range of gain across a broader rotation of the pot, while bunching up the high gain portion of the range toward the CW end of rotation. The main thing is for you to experiment until you're happy with it.
