Hi everyone/anyone, is there a way to get some more bass out of this pedal.
I love the way it sounds, it just needs more Ooomph to my ears.
Cheers
Had a fiddle with a tonestack calculator... You could try a lower value for C12... try 100n. (Even down to 22n) Let us know if that works!
Cheers, I'll try that when I get some time. I like the tone of the pedal and it's very articulate.
I tune very low ( A# Standard ) and don't won't to compromise the definitiion, a lot of pedals just sound muddy
but the chunk is nice, just needs a little kick in the butt is all!
Is there a way to switch between several different values, like stock and two others?
How would I wire a switch for this, and could someone do a sketch so my simple mind can wrap itself
around it!
Many thanks in advance for any help.
Jase
On (Off) On DPDT (you can use an SPDT but this is probably easier for me to explain).
Middle 2 lugs, stick wires to your board with the lowest value cap you intend to use.
Other 2 sides stick whatever caps you want to add in parallel with it so say in the middle you have... 22nF, one side you could have 33nF for a combined value of 55nF and the other side a 100nF for 122nF.
Make sense?
I'm a bit confused still, any chance of a diagram?
Sorry for being so daft....
Scruffie's idea is cool... you should hopefully get 3 bass response options from 'stock' to 'thunder' if you wired it like this... Let us know if this works :)
*edit: you can experiment with capacitor values, these are my suggestions*
Brilliant! Thanks for the clarification, your diagram was just what I needed.
Should it replace C11? That one seems to line up to the bass pot more....
C12 :)
Ok, I've ordered the parts. I'll let you know how it goes when I've got it installed.
Thanks again for all he help.
looking forward to hear how you got along :)
Hi, I just happened to build a chunk chunk as well and trying it out I was also missing some low end.
I just tried the mentioned mod and just wanted to tell that it works great !
I was using the switch with the following values: (because thats what I had lying around ;)) )
168n
33n
47n
I also think that you could lower it down to 22nF - but thats a matter of taste anyhow.
I was very impressed by the fact that if did not harm the overall sound of the pedal.
Now looking to put it in a nice enclosure.
Cool... thanks for the feedback Thomas!
Make sure you post a build report when you get done 8)

Was it cap 11 (feeds 2 of the Bass pot lugs) or the above mentioned C12 (feeding the center lug of the Mid pot)
C12
If you want to modify a circuit guys, you need to look at the schematic, not the pcb... pcb layouts are often misleading... You can experiment with C11 if you wish... Cheers
Thanks for the help, just finished the mod now and it works a treat!
The pedal has become my main source of distortion now, the extra bass leaves the pedals
clarity intact which is awesome.
Now on to the next project! ;D
Woohoo! Congrats Jase ;D

hey guys, I just wanna add my .02 to this.
I just finished my chunk chunk, and with the stock build I felt that I also wanted a bit more low end. I noticed that when engaged, my build seemed to really strip out alot of lows that had to be put back in with the amp because my bass pot didnt give me quite enough... I also noticed that my treble knob seemed to get aggressively bright once past 3 oclock... I have my fets biased more towards 5v rather than 4.5 because it seems to tighten up my sound a bit and does away with a bit of fizz... probably also could be making it a bit thinner also which could be contributing to my low end issue.
anyway...
I saw this thread and decided to socket my C12... i replaced the stock value with a 47n. and it really made a nice difference...
I now have a full range of lows which adds all the versatility that i want..
However, this swap also made my treble knob become usuable all the way to max with no harsh unusable sound... i dont know if this is even possible from the swap or its just my mind tricking me.. but my treble is much more usable now all the way around.
very very happy with this build and the small edit. killer pedal.
thank you.
Hi soonerrob, thanks for the feedback. :) Im going to have to build another one of these now so I can try out the mod... its a great sounding distortion!
Does this mod still connect to C12 on the new 2012 boards?

Good you put up the question, becos, NO, it does NOT seem so. The "old" C12 is now C17 (just had a quick look).
So... check your schematics before you follow the advices in this thread!
Cheers

...building on the "old" board as i type.
Thanks for the info, socketed C17 on the Chunk Chunk and liking 47n much better than 22n
hello okay?
I changed to c12 47n seems to be a great bass, I lost more middle scoop,
I changed (C4) 6.8n to 4.7n, even more mid scoop looks bad
what can I do?
perhaps put the 6.8n cap back in and if the scoop is too high perhaps raise the C12/17 cap from 47 to 68, 82 or even 100n.
Do i change the 220n c12 to 47n or 470n? Thanks!
