Title: Archibald in another shell
Post by: Saransk on January 19, 2022, 04:31:12 PM
Does the tube in the Archibald have to be directly connected to the main board, or can it be "wired" to orient it in a larger "box?"
I have an Ibanez Tube King T999HT that has a dead power transformer (made from unobtainium)
Too nice a shell to just toss and it should have all the room I need.  But the tube & socket would have to be wired to the board to fit.
Thanks
Michael

I speak without much knowledge to back it up but I don't think there would be a problem.  I've done a few "remote" wired tubes and never run into any noise issues.  And you're only moving it a few inches.

On the other hand, what about finding an unobtanium transformer and fixing the Ibanez.  I seem to recall those things sounded kinda cool.  I think the one I serviced had a blown cap, but I don't recall what the transformer was.

I don't see any problem wit it either. If you need a diagram with pin assignments from the PCB I can do that easily.
