Is it okay to wire the switch like this?

It is depending on function - generally, the longer wires, the more opportunities of parasite inductions. Between those wires, and between wires and energies all around. You must hear it, if everything is ok.

got the switch wired right...
I thought I got a bad tube tube though... both plates are at 16.5v w both 500k trimmers set at least the lowest.
Cut and saturation knobs do nothing.  very little drive... any ideas?  gonna buy a new tube.  the one I got was from ebay and looks a little janky..
Also, does the 100pf (C5) cap have to be silver mica?  Overlooked this detail when populating and put a ceramic one in there.

No one can consider now what is wrong at your Tuber. Reflow your welding, clear all points from tin dust (needle), controll voltages at anodes. Some anode rersistor must be there otherwise anode would be hardly connected with power - so, no signal can be out. Set at anodes 12V as described in manual. This is basic for another probing. With audioprobe. Then we can do another tests.
