Title: mlcc for input coupling cap
Post by: Thewintersoldier on January 21, 2021, 03:21:04 PM
So just a general question. I know most people will use film for input coupling caps but the standard fuzz I finished up had a different cap value between the two revisions of the board. I socketed to try between the original 10uf and the revised 100n values. I decided to go with 10uf. So is it advisable to go with a mlcc cap or electrolytic? I have the mlcc in it now but was wondering if putting a tant cap (smaller size) would be better for fidelity or any other reason?

Film and MLCC are fine.  Electrolytics generally add more distortion than non-electrolytics, but they're cheaper and smaller when you get above 1 or 2 uF.  In a guitar pedal you'd probably have trouble noticing a difference between any of these.

Awesome. I'll just leave it and rock it. Thanks.
