Title: Afterlife: Schottky in place of Germanium?
Post by: Now they tell me on June 26, 2017, 06:58:32 AM
One would think that if germanium is good for the rectifier diodes, Schottky would be great.

Does anyone have any experience along these lines?

Thank you kindly.

They'll work the same or better.

There's no reason to use germanium and I've built it 4 times with 1N60Ps instead. I don't even think there's enough impedance involved to even consider that the higher capacitance of a germanium diode or its leakage might contribute to the attack times.

The photocell you pick will absolutely dominate any other decision you can make when building this.

What about bat48? I have a bunch and they dont show up in many projects.
