Title: Deadringer/1N34a diode question
Post by: chip46 on August 05, 2011, 10:50:05 PM
It seems I forgot to order some 1n34a's for D4 of my deadringer. I guess I'll socket it at this point, but what are some good alternatives to try?

Thanks,
Dustin

There are lots. Pretty much any clipping diode or transistor could be used.

I like the Germanium type, but they can be pricy.

I think 1N60 and 1N270 are suitable alternatives. You could try other germanium diodes for results similar to the intended design or even try silicon/LEDs for something a little different

Cool, thanks guys. I've got some 1n270's laying around. I'll try those first, just wondering if anyone else swapped out D4 and what they thought of the changes.

Never built this circuit but I've used that diode. Yes put the 1n270's in there. They should sound great!
