Title: 2nd Madbean Build: Macheen!
Post by: LaceSensor on August 02, 2011, 01:12:22 PM
Finished this one up. Was a bit of a pain, had to fix a connection or two.

Deliberately sanded the paint off the top before adding decal to add to the industrial vibe.

sounds pretty horrid in a good way ;)

Cool graphics, I like how you can see the green under the knobs.

graphics are just a rip of the Zvex so no credit due to me ;)

The green pots are ok, ill see how they hold up over time.
They are Omeg 16mm miniature.

Looks awesome! 4 knobs is the way to go. I love un-biasing mine! I need to play with the diodes though, I put the 1n34a knock-offs which sound pretty fizzy, but it looks like you got some real ones!

re: Ge Diodes, well I hope they are real they cost a reasonable amount.
Ordered some 1n60p recently for cheap as chips which are meant to be a decent sub for the 1n34a

Are you talking about Futurlec? The 1n34a's I got from them are the same as the 1n60P. Yes cheap as can be at a penny a piece but they are fizzzzzy. I want to try some real 1n34a's to compare if its just these being knock-offs or if that's the general characteristic of germ diodes. But for the 50cents I spent it was well worth an experiment!

Yeah, thought it was worth a punt putting some in the order.

The 1n34a's I have are as far as I can tell the real deal.

Read this, depends if you trust that guy !
Maybe worth putting some on a switch like he says and seeing for yourself.

Forgot to post the link?
I've seen those black ones on Ebay and figure they are probably similiar to the green/blue/red striped 1N34a's. I'll more than likely grab a bag of them soon. I meant to say before, Futurlec sent me the exact same diode for 1n34a and 1n60p. I thought they were gonna be slightly different at least but they weren't.
But honestly how does it sound with the ones you have in there?  :)

yeah sorry

Im yet to fully playtest the Machine. It sounds horrid on its own I know that much XD
Will get time to audition through my full setup tommorow.
It sounds fairly close to the ones on Youtube I reckon.

Those look like the same ones I got from Futurlec, 10 for 50 cents.
IMHO I like the sound of it by itself. It does sound pretty nasty if you turn the bias knob down, but fully CW it smooths out a bit and becomes much more use-able.
