Title: Pig Butt - Diode Socketing?
Post by: blackedition on February 14, 2016, 02:45:02 PM
Hi all, I am working on my second build (Pig Butt) while waiting for some additional parts to arrive for my first build (Multiplex Echo Machine). I was wondering, is there any advantage to socketing the diodes? I'm not sure if they are clipping diodes or not... I know the Pig Butt is an op amp fuzz, so I wasn't sure.

If you do recommend socketing, what other diodes would you recommend trying instead of the stock 1N914 and 1N5817.

Yep, they are clipping diodes - but honestly you probably won't get much out of changing them since the signal is so mangled in this circuit. The 3x diodes in each direction is about the same forward voltage as one LED (~1.8-2V).
