Title: Cap Choices?
Post by: Wedge on June 18, 2010, 03:12:48 AM
Is there any way of differentiating between different types of caps in the layouts?  Certainly you can tell which ones are electrolytic and which are box, but anything besides that?  Does it matter if I use film/tantalum/ceramic for the unknown kinds, and is there one type I ought to use?

Thanks so much!

On Brian's layouts the caps are pretty much like so (and someone correct me if i'm wrong):

uF: Electrolytic
n: Film
pF: Ceramic

Personally, I like to use the "box style" poly film caps in my builds for all of the "n" values because they are compact, and I mostly just like the way they look. I've always just used ceramic discs for the pF values. Not sure if that helps, but on the build documents, that's usually how they are set up.

Good Read. (http://www.beavisaudio.com/techpages/Caps/) I am not sure if it's cool to link this, so someone spank me or pull it if it is inappropriate.

Brian's made it clear in some other posts that he's cool with linking to other sites.
