Title: Mid Fi Pitch Pirate
Post by: bigmufffuzzwizz on June 02, 2011, 06:27:50 PM
Just saw an awesome demo of this pedal. Would be a great addition to the Clari(not).
Anyone know if this has been traced yet?

I believe Doug Deeper himself contributed a schematic at Freestompboxes  http://freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11124&hilit=pitch+pirate

If you look further into the thread (pg. 4). Our own 'bean posts the schematic for it. I'll look at it and see if I can come up with a layout. I've got a few others I need to finish up first though.

I don't know if it's verified, but there's a layout in page 6 posted by "the_ungod".

They really bashed him in the beginning of that thread but got put in their place!
What kind of layout would you do Ian?

Figured I'd give this a little bump, I'd be interested in seeing the Pitch Pirate Deluxe

I put a request into Sabro awhile ago after the schem was posted on FSB. He's had it on his "to-do" vero list forever..maybe if more people ask him about it he'll move it up higher on his list...

i need to revisit the schematic and see if I can come up with a layout.

there's a PCB layout on FSB, maybe Haberdasher or someone else can etch one for you. i'd offer, but i'm extremely behind on my etching and out of town for the next 2 weeks.

Oh cool Ian! I haven't been keeping up on it, I'll go check that out. My printer isn't working so I can't etch either..horrible horrible

I actually etched a couple of these for some dudes a while back.  I remember one of the guys complained there was a switch pop but I'm sure someone here could come up with a solution to that.

If anyone wants one hit me up.

I can probably bang out a quick layout in Eagle.

single sided artwork?  that would be awesome.

Awesome CJ. I've gotten one working up. Being away from home, this forum and EAGLE are my only connection to the hobby :) Can't wait to see your layout.

Shiiiiiiitttttt.

Shouldn't have said anything. I was thinking of the "Random Number Generator" circuit, which is a lot simpler.  ;D

Consider it done! I'll do up a single-sided layout that can be etched or fabbed.

Sweet. I'm still trying to work up the Pitch Pirate, but is is a little bugger.

I"ve got some time today, was thinking of etching up a Pitch Pirate using The UngodFX layout, anyone try this layout?  is it the one with the popping issue?  Anyone try a pull-down resistor to take care of it or is it something else?

Later

Hey guys, sorry to resurrect such an old thread it's what I got in the search results.

Any news on the pitch pirate deluxe projects? pcb/vero, something?

This pedal caught my attention so I was like - I should build it.

I think someone traced the Deluxe Version on FSB, but don't remember any pcb/vero project

I took a look and there's a verified vero too, but some guys had problems with ticking...

It also seems that the unit traced is an old version. Newer versions use a single gang pot for the mix control (I bet this is an easy mod, just stick a blender in place of the dual gang pot)

Hey thanks for the effort! Dual gangs are not a hassle for me...I'll head over to FSB now and see what's up with that vero :) Thanks!

Hm seems like nobody is fully satisfied with their build. Also I can't go back to vero I caaaaaan't. I've done countless veros but nowadays I just can't seem to make myself to use it.
Seems like I'm gonna pass on this one.
Might do a Clarinot just for fun :) I remember some of the 6 knob versions that some of you guys had done, and those were really cool.

Clari(not) is better IMO. I just recently built a 4 knob pirate and given that I usually like mad effects, it didn't really do anything for me so I scavenged the pots back and threw it in the box of shame.

This! the Clari has more, and more interesting sounds from "normal" to drug trip. Especially with the fuzz lift mod.

Cool!
But I've heard that the fuzz lift do not eliminate the fuzz entirely, it is still pretty dirty right? That's why I considered the pirate...

Well mine was built on vero by a board member here and it is very clean in fuzz lift mode. It still needs some extra gain to trigger the envelope in fuzz lift mode so I use a light clean boost in front or a filter. Its as clean as a pt2399 delay can be. I even put a multiplex after it to give more than one repeat and it held its own without noising out.
