Title: Clear Shaft Pot for LED
Post by: Roctopus on May 28, 2011, 06:59:11 PM
Hey gang,

I came across a FatPants thread here on the forum where Brian used a Clear Shaft Pot for LED.
http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=426.0

In the thread a link is provied to purchase them through mouser.com
http://www.mouser.com/catalog/catalogUSD/642/683.pdf

Brian also gave a link to where he got some clear/transparent Chicken Head Knobs.
http://www.amplifiedparts.com/products/amp_parts/P-K700CL

Questions:

In order to fit the Chicken Head knobs, what size shaft length for the clear shaft pot should I use? 13.7mm or 18mm? Does it even matter?

Does it matter if it's (1) One Turn or (2) Two Turns?

Mouser only has 5k, 10k, 20k, 50k, and 100k Clear Shaft pots. Does anyone know where you can get different values such as 25k, 250k, or 500k Clear Shaft pots?

Does anyone know where you can get different types of Clear/Transparent Knobs such as the one that's on the Xotic EP Booster? http://www.xotic.us/effects/ep_booster/

What size LED fits in the shat? I believe it's a 3mm LED but just want to be sure.

Thanks,
Roctopus

There's a group buy going on at FSB for the clear Davies style knobs

They make pots with a luminous shaft, too.  I'm not sure where to get them, though :-\

Does anyone know of anywhere else that sells the pots to accomodate the LED? Postage to Australia from Mouser is unfortunately not worth it (around $30 minimum).

Have you tried to get them directly from Alpha? Let me know if it's cheaper that way

What about smallbear? Is shipping to Australia really expensive with them?

Right that link is for the clear pot from Smallbear. I see.

Does anyone know how to mount these pots? They don't have a washer on them......?

I received a bunch of these from mouser and the linear (B) ones have 3 lugs as per normal, but the logarithmic ones have 5 lugs? anyone know what this is about?

Thanks for the help team.

Hey Scott,

I totally MacGrubered it but I used doubled sided tape and super glue. Maybe night the best way but it's on there pretty good.

From what I understand the 5 lug ones [RV142F-40-(L) BL] are duel ganged pots. Here is a link that should help you out on how to wire it. http://www.taiwanalpha.com.tw/english/p_e_37.htm

Blessings,

Do they still carry them? I thought I saw them online but looked today and couldn't find them anymore. Let me know.

They're listed under the new additions (here (http://www.smallbearelec.com/Categories.bok?category=NEW+ADDITIONS%21+-+As+Of+10%2F16%2F11)), but not with the other pots yet--as of now, anyway.

I wonder what the pin spacing is on these. I recall that some similar pots had pins tighter than the .2" found on typical Alpha pcb-mount pots.

This is great. I was close to ordering from Mouser as I didn't see them at Bears. These look better. Thanks.
