On the board there are D8 and D9, in the instructions build D8 is Red 3mm LED. I'm assuming that D9 is also a Red 3mm LED.
Is this correct?

So, I need to omit D6, D7 and D9. Is D8 part of the signal path?

D8 is not part of the signal path, but is there to prevent the PT2399 from clipping too hard from the input gain stage.
