Post by: radix on April 29, 2011, 07:06:13 AM
Hi
just ordered the Deadringer PCB.
just wondering is the pdf posted on your website the latest?
as i checked thru the erratas forum there are some corrections which are not reflected in the pdf,
R15=510k or is it suppose to be 150K?
thks

I just purchased one as well and have the same questions.
Are C3 and C15 both 510k or 150k?
Also is C4 51pf or 100pf.
Please help Brian :)

R3 and R15 are both 510k. C4 is 51pF. You can use 47pF there without any noticeable tonal changes.

I see that I did list R15 as corrected to 150k under the errata section. I've seen both values equally listed on many different schematics. The Tube Screamer is 510k in that position. Basically, it provides some current limiting to the reference voltage supplied to the base of Q2, which it a buffer before the output. Either value should work in this case without a change in tone or output impedance. The actual value is not critical.

If I can jump on this, I'm wondering about c5 and c12-14 as I am having a whale of a time finding anything bigger than 1uF on smallbear.  Is there something I'm missing here?  The pdf says to stick with panasonic or topmay, but I'm not seeing it.
Any thoughts?

Is it possible those values are supposed to read nF instead of uF?

No uF is correct. If you look on the board the screenmask is sized in a circle which would indicate for an electrolytic capacitor. Box/film caps generally range from .001 uF - 1 uF at least for the applications we are using them for. Here's what you want:

The 1uF, 10uF and 100uF are all on that page. Also you don't have to use panasonic or topmay, those are just the main brands that smallbear sells regarding high quality film caps. There's tons of other choices out there that will have a minute if any change on the sound sonically.

Ha!  I should've thought to look at the shape of the screenmask to indicate whether or not those caps were electrolytics.  Thanks!

Those are 16V caps. To be safe you may want to go with;
25V http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=1070
35V http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=190 (they don't have any 1uF)
or something like this http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=192 (nice kit to stock up)  ;D
