Title: Electrolytic and ceramic caps at Mouser?
Post by: dont-tase-me-bro on July 27, 2014, 11:42:16 PM
What do you guys get at Mouser for electrolytic and ceramic?  Trying to piece things together from existing threads and BOM's, but am coming up a bit short.  Their product attribute filters are great, but my noobery gets in the way.

I saw these Panasonic electrolytic, which I think are correct, but they don't cover the whole range.

And then these Nichicon ones, which also seems correct, which cover a greater range.

For picofarads, these are the TDK ones in the BOM thread.  Does anyone have a preferred ceramic disk, like the Small Bear ones?

Thanks,

Those ceramics look cool, I have used a couple of them. you're in the right direction on everything. I like the nichicon electros, just be sure you get the right size. 2 or 2.5mm lead spacing should do you good. the 470u are usually 5mm. You also want to watch your case diameter, 5mm is a good size.

You're definitely on the right track. I like to stay above 25V. After that, the key thing is diameter. Most layouts use 5mm & 6.3mm electros.

Another tip: Sometimes for smaller values like 1uF or 10uF, the higher voltage caps are even cheaper.

Thank you.  I'll check out the higher voltages on the 1 and 10uf as well.  I thought I was on the right track, but Mouser seems pretty easy to order the wrong stuff accidentally - I think I'm getting a capacitor, but it ends up the size of a soda can

Here is a nice breakdown that Midwayfair put together for low profile electrolytic caps. It does look like your on the right track but I thought I would link it in case there is anything in there that was of use...

My advice with the TDK Multilayer ceramics is to carefully read the specs and make sure the lead spacing is what you need. I've accidentally ordered 2.5mm spaced TDKs on multiple occasions when I needed 5mm. They still work but its not optimal.

Thanks.  I grabbed those TDK ones from the BOM thread.  I had a few delivered this week for the first time, and they look good.  I'm going to try and find some of the normal straight leg disc ones too.
