Title: Zombie too thin/harsh...
Post by: JakeFuzz on February 28, 2011, 04:03:44 PM
Anyone else think that the Fuzz Factory is just too thin and harsh sounding? I did the capacitor replacements and it added bit to the lower registers, but I find it still has too much treble and grittiness to it. Is it just my amp/guitars or can I really not pull a decent germanium fuzz tone from this thing.  ???

i dunno...

but, i have two fuzz factories.
one from zvex and one that i built.

and i find that the one i built sounds thinner and harsher than the store bought one.
i think it might be the germs causing the anomaly though

Hmm maybe. I've been reading that the grittiness is just inherent in the design. I was expecting it to sound more like my germanium fuzz face at it's tamer settings (really smooth and kind of dark) but I really cannot find any similarities in these two, which is strange because the second stage looks similar to the fuzz face.

What gear are you using with it?
And, what caps did you replace?

I am using mainly vintage voiced singles (strats and teles) and a Fender twin reverb. I did the cap replacements as suggested (C1 and C4). I am thinking it is my amp's natural lack of mid-range. I need to test it with a Marshall or a blues junior.
