This is a tube screamer with a lot of the popular mods. Adding the 3 switches made the build a bit on the tight side. I have a tendency to try and jam too much in 1590a builds.

After taking the (poor) photos, I realized that I probably should've cleaned off the flux from the 3PDT switch. I'll probably do that later.
Wow, this is a truly great build!
But better never offer in on eBay or you may attract the attention of the trade mark owners...
That's a lovely looking, flawless build! I've not yet put one of my tested boards in enclosures and seeing this kind of attention to detail is daunting. That LED looks like it's part of the enclosure itself, it's so snug. What did you use to do the lettering and design on the top? Is that done with stamps or a really shallow etch?

Yeah, I wouldn't sell the pedal with somebody's trademark on it. I built this one for myself.

Thanks. The LED is rather tight. I drill the LED holes with a 3mm bit and they are a press fit in there.
The etching was done with a 30W CO2 laser. That type of etch doesn't dig into the medal, it just burns away the finish, so it is only as deep as the top coat.
Awesome ! I also have a 1590A Screamer to box with as many knobs & switches as yours, and I'm a bit afraid to do so, so I can fully appreciate what you did here.
Also, it's funny, the components on your boards look a bit scarce ;D (it's a quality — very dense boards can be a pain). Maybe it's just because of the tiny parts... out of curiosity, what schematic is it based on?
That is seriously impressive. I especially love the etch.

I looked at a few different layouts, but ended up close to Madbean's Green Bean. I increased the output cap back to 10uF, though.

Well then congrats, this is a really neat layout.
Regarding the switches, are they just regular SPDTs with a short lever, or did you use switches with a submini body (8 x 5 mm instead of 12 x 7 mm) ?
That is one beautiful build. And fitting all that into an "a" enclosure, well, that is an art unto itself.

They are just regular SPDTs with normal sized body and lever. If I had small body with short levers, I would have MUCH preferred to use those. The size of the switches really made it tight,
Oh, right, the perspective of the first picture threw me off, the others show clearly that they are the usual size. They look very nice though, much sturdier than the subminis I got from Mouser (which feel and function very nicely, it's just a matter of looks).
What a build! I've yet to complete a 1590a successfully, but everyone of yours makes me keep trying. Well done, sir.
It looks really great! :D
What kind of finish is that?
Do you make stencil and that spray it or?

1590a builds take a bit more planning, but they use all the skills you've already developed. With a bit of practice, I am sure you can do it.
Warning: they are addictive. :-)

The finish is the blue anodized finish from Pedal Parts Plus. The graphics are laser etched from a vector graphic file.
Thanks for the info
Cheers

I was wondering, since those laser etching machines are so expensive - do you own one, have a friend with access to one, have other access to one through work, or are there companies offering laser etching services?
I want a laser etching machine, but I'll never have one :(
We have one at work, and I use it whenever I can.
The best place to have laser engraving done is usually at local trophy shops. A number of folks on the various DIY guitar forums have gone that route. The trick is to find one that will run the job without a setup fee.
Beautiful build, dave. Took me a sec to find the tone knob! What makes you decide to use the MXR knobs on the side as opposed to another aluminum knob?

Well, they're half the size, so you just
have to build twice as many to keep up, right? Right?

Thanks Jon,
I always use the MXR knobs because they are lower profile and mount closer to the side. In fact, I always file down the pot shaft so that i can mount the knobs even closer.
One of these days, I'll put some aluminum knobs on a lathe and trim them shorter, but until then, the MXR knobs have been good.
And yes, one has to build twice as many. :-)
I dig your builds! :)
Good choice of the logo. You are lucky they are out of business for years ;D
EDIT: I just looked it up and there is a company marketing the brand name and logo, so shhhhhh........

Thanks! I am pretty happy with the way it turned out.
Luckily, it's not a commercial build, so there really isn't much that can happen.
Yikes, that's HOT!
Josh
Everyone else can stop making Tube Screamers now...
Sexy and clean build....
It makes me feel different things about building some 1590A based pedals: it looks like a fun challenge on one hand, but I know I'll feel frustrated when I finish as it's impossible to achieve that clean looking!
Just noticed: you might want to change your graphic template in case you ever reuse it. It's asymmetric, not assymetrical.

Dammitol. I should know better. I have spelled that wrong on more than a couple of occasions.
That looks great! But do you have any that say pickdropper right on it? ;-)

Your builds a truly superior to mine sir. Can't wait to see your wee pedal board.
This isn't just a pedal, it's a piece of art!! So beautiful! 8)
Amazing as usual Dave. That is just a gorgeous build.
Incredible! :o

Hey Jimi,
I've got a couple of wee pedalboards. This is an older pic of one of them:

How cute, you need to build a tiny wah.

I am not sure if I could operate a smaller way (size 13 shoes). I'd certainly give it a try, however.

that would be kind of cool wouldn't it....
I've seen a tiny wah online somewhere, someone jimmied one out of an old sewing machine treadle! Who knows how they got that to work. Cool though, I think it was day glow orange too.
so good bro! totally diggin the mini pedal board too. stellar!
Thanks for all of the kind words, guys.

I think this is the one..
That's no the one, but what the hell is that?!
I've found it on DIYSB build report topic.. as you can see 1590a wah pedal
I just can't see anything that moves the pot, if the design isn't to difficult, I need this in my life!!
Just had a look, it's LED/LDR based, super cool!
it is very cool build, I didn't see ldr on the picture.. but probably it is only option that could be used in this kind of build
