Title: 2in1 Suggestions
Post by: eldanko on July 11, 2013, 03:29:47 PM
I have several unboxed projects that I'd like to tackle over the next few weeks. I also have some spare 1590BB enclosures that I'd like to use in the process, preferably made into 2in1 drive boxes and stuff like that. I like 2in1s, as they take up less pedalboard space and only use one line of power. So... of these circuits, which do you guys think would make the best combinations?

Flapjack (hotcake)
Retrograde (octavia)
Pepper Spray (harmonic percolator)
Egghead (clark gainster)
Neutrino (eternity to black specs)
Rangemaster
ToneBender mkII
ToneBender mkI
Pastyface (other bender)

Hmm, just looking at it, a mkI/mkII "Box o' Benders" could be a pretty fun challenge. Nice for variety, probably not for stacking... hmm...

Rangemaster + Some bender.

I second RobA.

Still, Octavia into any other type of dirt sounds spectacular, especially into a Bender.

Rangemaster into Bender, or other way around? I think that'd be fun.

Octavia into fuzz as opposed to a drive?

rangemaster into a fuzz face type of some kind, with a smaller input capacitor, like 100nf.
just this order. it can perform very similar to a tone bender mk2. and you have very good flexibility.
if you place the ranger master after the fuzz face you have to place a diode to keep the range master's
transistor from frying. take a look at the pastyface.

I regularly use my Rangemaster [keeley version is what I made, with a 3 position voicing toggle switch] to infuse additional Ge gain into other pedals. I mean running it DIMED into a Sunking can get me toans from fuzz face [even the clean up part very very well] to Muff type toans. It eliminated a need for both of these pedals from my board. Rangemaster into a Sunking into a SHO pretty much nails crazy fat lead tones, and heavy rhythm as well. Metal even. Really really angry metal.
The bottom line is - it's a much more useful tool than running your AC30 into submission.

I actually tend to run my fuzzes in this manner - that is, fuzz before overdrive - to allow the overdrive to "shape" the EQ of the fuzz (tame the highs, etc.) while getting the amazing sustain and liveliness that only a fuzz can bring.

I have enough OC44s to build a few Rangemaster variations, and I was going to start with the original, the Keeley, and the Red Rooster.

I never really liked my Rangemaster and wasn't that crazy about the Big Muff I built, then I put them together. The Rangemaster driving the Big Muff and it sounds huge. Throw a little bit of delay on and it is definitely a go to lead sound.

This thread got me thinking about a combined Rangemaster into a fuzz face. I have a question. Does anybody know if I can use the polarity conversion on the Five O'Clock Fuzz PCB for the Rangemaster too?
