Title: Zero Point SDX
Post by: 3petedt on May 29, 2013, 03:43:51 PM
Do not have 1uF electrolytic caps C38, 43 and 50.  Can I use 2.2uF?  Risk/Reward?
What about Tants or Film?
Thanks in advance

Pretty sure tants are good

film might be too big to fit

not sure on the issues with upping to 2.2uF might be...

For 38 and 43, using 2.2uF shouldn't make much difference -- they aren't going to affect the low frequency filtering nearly as much as all the tone shaping that comes before them and they're just decoupling caps. It's possible you'll get a few more subs in the repeats in analog and tape modes.

I'm not sure what'll happen to the current mirror if you use a different value in C50, but use a tant there if you have it. R45 was being used as a drain on that capacitor but it's been removed, so doubling the cap might affect the total delay time. I think it'll ootch it up, though, so that's not horrible.

Thanks for the reply(s).  I have tants, but am leery given some of the concerns regarding their behavior at times.  Seeing that the designs calls for two at C11 and C22, c'est la vie, eh?  I think I will go with 2.2 electro at 38 and 43, and a tant at 50.  -thanks
