Tonebender MKII Supa Fuzz kinda thing

I really like all of the cool things you can do with the MKII, very piano-y double tracking some of the backgroundy octaves and things.  Lead part was with gain only 60% or so and volume around the same.  Recorded in studio1 artist using ampire cos the family was asleep.   Ampire was set to really neutral settings in order to show a pretty non-colored tone with the MKII and some fake verb for the obviously non-fuzzed guitar.  I feel like my demos are slowly getting better, spent a little more time on this one and I am pretty proud of the mix and some other things I have been trying to do better at.  Recording is no joke.  Anyhow you get the idea, I think MKII's are edging out MKIII's for me too (JakeFuzz!)

Sounds really good Tim. Love the stereo panning. I love the sound of that lead part, harmonically interesting is the way I describe the MKII. I really like mine because you can get very useful sounds with volume knob roll off or balls to the wall fuzz at full tilt!

Thanks Paul, really been working harder and reeading alot about how to capture and mix the stuff better.  Mitch Gallagher, Rich Tozzoli, and John Bohlinger all have great columns in Premier Guitar that are recording/production/studio gear focused but written for guitar players and reading those every month has been really helpful in thinking how to go about things.  Guys like you and Jargo are really inspiring with your studio knowledge here.  What I am finding is that I can easily spend a few hours working to get a single minute of audio played, recorded, and mixed decently.  Learning to do all three of those things better and faster is my goal.

Great variety of fuzz textures, awesome job. I like the raw recording as well. Reminds me of some solo John Frusciante recordings.

So what circuit/schematic did you use and what type of transistors if you don't mind sharing?

I used OC139 in Q1, OC140 in Q2, and OC141 in Q3.  All of these are NPN "Symmetrical" Germanium transistors that have higher or lower hfe depending on whether you make the red dot the emitter or the collector.  Red dot = Collector is higher gain.  I oriented them Q1 High gain (around 80hfe), Q2 Low Gain (around 100hfe), Q3 Low Gain (around 120hfe).  I used the regular Supa Fuzz PCB and schematic found here: http://pigeonfx.com/layoutsf.html but put a 10nf input cap offboard and made some other changes detailed in my build report here: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=6010.0
